The Samsung BD-P1400 is going to have a very short life of 2 months or less. The BLU-RAY association has mandated that all BLU-RAY players manufactured after October 31st 2007 are required to have 256 MB of memory storage for PIP and also all BLU-RAY players that include an optional internet connection is required to have 1GB of memory storage for BD-live. Samsung most likely will be very busy manufacturing several thousands of the BD-P1400 before the October 31st cut off date.

I have some comments on your conclusions...

First, the link you provides states BD-P1400 as a profile 1 (=1.0?). That is not a proof that it does not fulfill the hardware requirement of profile 1.1 or 2.0. It might be possible to upgrade with firmware upgrade.

In the product data sheet it says "Ethernet Port - Perfect and convenient for any upgrades that may need to be issued in the future as the Blu-ray format continues to evolve.". What Blu-ray evolutions could that be...?

BDA has mandated all Blu-ray players launched after October 31st 2007 to be either profile 1.1 or 2.0. Samsung is allowed to continue to manufacture BD-P1400 after Oct. 31st. Also, the requirement is that profile 2.0 players must have an internet connection, not the other way around. It's for example perfectly ok for a profile 1.1 player to have a internet connection for firmware upgrades.
