Default The Sony BDP-S350 will be selling for around $250 from some mail order companies soon

From a very reliable source of mine I have learned that the Sony BDP-S350 now has a suggested retail price of $299.99. The $299.99 price is what retail stores will be selling the BDP-S350 for. Also mail order companies will very soon be selling the Sony BDP-S350 for around $250. My mail order source offered me a few players for around $250 and I am strongly considering buying some for bedrooms at that price. I do wish Sony would have added internal 1GB of memory instead of requiring consumers to purchase external 1GB of memory for BD-LIVE. The BDP-S350 will not decode the advanced audio format like DTS HD Master but it will bitstream them over HDMI. At that price it is very affordable to upgrade all my DVD players to BLU-RAY players. I can always upgrade later to better future BLU-RAY players when they come out. That is what EBAY is for. For the main home theater room the $2200 Pioneer Elite BLU-RAY player is a option for me in the future.

Sounds good. If the mail order companies will be able to offer it for $250 I suspect we might see it for as low as $200 around Black Friday on sale.

I just bought two Sony BDP-S350's for around $243 each plus shipping as a gift for some family members. I was getting tired of buying duplicate new releases on both DVD and BLU-RAY discs. It was cheaper to upgrade all the DVD players to BLU-RAY players and stock all new releases on BLU-RAY only. The BDP-S350 is a good player for the price. I would have been willing to pay $500 or more for a BLU-RAY player that had at least 1GB of internal memory for BD-LIVE and internal decoding of all the advanced audio formats but none have been released yet (Samsung BDP-2500 not out yet and lacks legacy 480I S-Video).

Here is the main reasons I went with two Sony BDP-S350 over other BLU-RAY players

1. I was attracted to the PS3 with the internal memory already built in for BD-LIVE and the fast load times. I was also considering starting to collect PS1, PS2, and PS3 games for the first time. The reason I did not purchase two PS3 models was because the current models on the market do not play PS2 games and super audio CD’s which the older discontinued models do. If I am buying a game machine it should play all the games. I would have been willing to fork over $600 each for a PS3 if those features were not removed on the new generation of PS3 machines.
2. The Samsung BDP-2500 and BDP-2550 is currently the only standalone BLU-RAY player on the market with built in 1GB of memory. The only reason I did not go with the Samsung model is because the person I am giving the player to has a high-end old early 1990’s 480I CRT TV with the S-Video jack being the highest quality input. Samsung is the only BLU-RAY manufactory so far that I have seen that has eliminated the legacy 480I S-VIDEO. So Samsung lost a sale on two players from me because of this. All BLU-RAY players on the market currently have the legacy 480I S-Video jack accept for the Samsung BDP-1500, BDP-2500, and BDP-2550. In about a year or two that family member plans on upgrading that 480I TV to a Pioneer Kuro Elite but until the upgrade they will be watching BLU-RAY’s at 480I quality.
3. So since I could not find a BLU-RAY player on the market yet that had all the features I was looking for I decided to go with two low cost Sony BDP-S350’s as a gift for some family members. These players can always be upgraded later when better quality BD-LIVE players are released that have internal decoding of DTS-HD Master audio and other improvements, that’s what EBAY is for, to get rid of older models.

I received the two Sony BDP-S350's on Tuesday. I see that according to the manual that 1GB or larger USB flash memory can be used. I purchased two 16GB USB flash memory for the two BLU-RAY players. I did not want to run out of room for storage, hopefully 16GB will be enough for any future downloads. Hopefully the Sony BDP-S350 firmware will see that much memory. To my surprise I discovered that unless one uses a mico size mini USB flash that a standard USB flash memory will not fit in the Sony players. To solve that problem I have just purchased two USB extension cables for each player that will allow standard size USB flash memory to be used with the Sony BDP-S350. Now I hope the Sony player will work correctly with the 16GB USB flash memory. There is always a possibility of incompatibility problems if Sony memory is not used. I have not had time to finish hooking the players up yet. Messing around with these external USB flash memory and USB extension cords is a hassle and not consumer friendly., I am hoping that 100% of all BLU-RAY players in 2009 will have at least 1GB of memory built for BD-LIVE with the option of using external memory when the internal memory is full.. The new Pioneer Elite player has 4GB of internal memory built in. As soon as I have time I will be connecting these players.
