Most movies (film) are shot at 24 frames per second so the correct way to wath them is 24p. On a 120Hz refresh rate display 24 x 5 refreshes = 120

Most things shot on video are done at 60 interlaced fields per second (a field is half of a frame) so the correct way to watch them is at 60Hz. On a 120Hz refresh rate display 60 x 2 refreshes = 120.

Some film/video material is done at 30 frames per second and should also be seen at 60 Hz. On a 120Hz refresh rate display 30 x 4 refreshes = 120.
