1989 through 1995 was a pretty dismal period in general for horror, with some obvious but scant exceptions. Action and sci fi films fared quite a bit better in this period.

That's the order I rank them.
Depending on the mood, I even swap them. Heresy I know, but the original is like a song that is great but you have heard way too many times.

My ranking list for the Halloween franchise:

1. Halloween (1978)
2. Halloween II
3. Halloween 4: The Return Of Michael Myers
4. H2O
5. Halloween III: Season Of The Witch
6. Halloween: The Curse Of Michael Myers
7. Halloween (2018)
8. Halloween 5: The Revenge Of Michael Myers
9. Halloween Resurrection
10. Rob Zombie's Halloween
11. RZ Halloween II

I can't rate Halloween Kills because I have not watched it yet.

The better quality H20 gets, the more obvious the different masks throughout the movie are. During chase scenes in the 2nd half of the movie the mask literally changes from shot to shot. It's just so amateurish.

Why they even went with the mask they did initially is baffling, but if they were gonna do reshoots with a new mask then ffs do it right and reshoot every shot. It's not like they couldn't go back to a previous location to reshoot with the new mask either as you see both masks being used in different shots at the same locations.

Yeah, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation was definitely the highlight of that time period

I kind of like that one.

Plenty of horror type gems in that time period and much better movies than TCM: TNG.

Child's Play III, The People Under the Stairs, Phantasm III, Army of Darkness, Leprechaun, Pet Sematary II, Sleepwalkers, Gate II, Warlock, that's just off the top of my head. Wishmaster is excellent and is from 1997 just a couple years after.

Several of those are also much better than Halloween 4 and 5 imo.

Not every film can be Halloween or Halloween II.

The sequels are an excellent way of revisiting the Halloween mystique more regularly, without having to spin the original film so many times that you wear out its welcome and burn out on it. The more sequels, the more you can spread out the mileage. And the worse the sequels get, the more grateful you are for the original film.

I feel the same way about Phantasm, shame we only have five movies on that one.

Same reason I'm also hoping that we somehow still get one more Alien film (prequel?) out of amazing ol' Ridley Scott......

I would add In the Mouth of Madness and Wes Craven's New Nightmare to that list. And ironically both deal with fiction bleeding into reality.

That's funny, Texas Chainsaw III is on my October Horrorfest watch list, and is sitting on my entertainment stand right now, waiting for a spin. I pulled it out because I can't remember the second half of it that well. Maybe I'll fire it up tonight.

'89 gave us Puppet Master, Society, Deep Star Six, The Fly 2, Pet Sematary, Warlock, Tetsuo, Shocker and Leviathan - While many might hate some of these, they were prime rentals for me growing up!

H5 worse than HR? Lol, no way. H5 is like The Godfather compared to that crap. Solid gold. HR is an abomination.

1. Halloween (1978)
2. Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers
3. Halloween 5
4. Halloween II (1981)
5. Halloween (2018)
6. Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later
7. Halloween III: Season of the Witch
8. Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers (Producer's Cut)
9. Halloween Kills
10. Halloween Resurrection
11. Halloween II (2009)
12. Halloween (2007)

I'll admit that the last 4-5 can be re-arranged depending on my mood but the first 7 are pretty firmly in place. I also really enjoy the first 7 in my ranking and it's only those last 4-5 that I have some major issues with.
I'll rank them in terms of how much I enjoy them:

1) H4
2) HIII
3) H6
4) HII
5) H1
6) H5
7) H20
8) RZH2
9) HK
10) H'18
11) RZH
12) HR

(I'm still trying to figure out if that's where I want to rank HK. It could possibly be higher than RZH2 and maybe even H20. I'm not sure yet. But that's where I'll put it for now. It's definitely better than H'18)

I remember really liking Halloween 4 , 5 and 6, and H20
Thought I saw them many years ago and would love to revisit them in 4K. I will pick them up when the prices get a bit better. Im glad I picked up H1 and 2 from walmart cheap and didnt have to pay amazon prices.

I have also never seen the producers cut of H6. I really hope to be able to see it in 4K
