Excellent. I will definitely re-evaluate, in my next viewing of HII.

So Shout is still doing nothing about this huh? What a shame as it's obviously an issue and very noticeable particularly because of when it happens.

Them saying it's a player issue is especially stupid since it's obviously effecting many different players. So umm, maybe it's YOUR issue Shout if multiple players are all the "problem."

For the record my player is a PS5, which doesn't have Dolby Vision, and the glitch appears in HDR10.

I just watched this UHD disc in Dolby Vision, Atmos bounced down to 5.1. Sony player, TCL display.

No glitch during “the scene”. I did rewind to, ahem, rewatch, and whilst rewinding I saw a glitch, but playing normally two more times, still no glitch in DV.

My review of the movie and UHD 4K.

A very enjoyable follow-up to John Carpenter's 1978 masterpiece! i mean after the success of the first movie, Dino De Laurentiis studios acquired sequel rights and Carpenter and Hill had the idea for a sequel set 4 years later after the first where Michael would follow Laurie to Chicago where she moved to a high rise building. But the executives wanted them to pick up where the first left off, so they did it as Debra Hill and John Carpenter wrote the movie.

The film does have some of the original cast of Loomis, Sheriff Breckitt and Laurie back and some of the co-stars are Dana Carvey, Lance Guest and more are solid. I do admit Dr Mixter's actor is weak but the rest of the cast give off good performances. Rick Rostenthal's direction is solid and a decent attempt to be John Carpenter with the style that Carpenter had yet i hear Carpenter directed some sequences for this movie.

There is some pacing problems like the scene with the night watchman who is searching for whoever is there and there's a cheap attempt to scare like the cat. But the movie does move at a good pace as there's likable characters like Bud for example you invest in.

There is some violent kills like the scolding hot water sequence to the syringe to the temple sequence as this is one of the more violent entries in the franchise. Quite effective kills.

Some say Laurie doesn't do much in the movie, well she has been hurt badly by her attack with Michael in the previous movie as she's recovering physically and mentally. They just save her doing things in the other half of the movie to get away from Michael and later fighting him off. The score by John Carpenter and Alan Howarth is solid as it gives us a nice synth version of the theme complete with the iconic opening sequence of the skull pumpkin which made an iconic poster too.

The movie did became a box office hit 40 years ago in theaters and earned mixed reviews. I know in recent years, John Carpenter has not like the script because of the brother sister angle to Michael and Laurie. But i never had an issue with that, i liked that concept because it gives us a reason why Michael is after Laurie. It was quite a bold move as it was coming a year off Empire Strikes Back on Darth Vader you know. I think the script is solid and not that bad as Carpenter and Hill thinks.

The cinematography by Dean Cundy is fantastic as it captures the feel of the first movie even in the POV shots. Memorable quotes like "You don't know what death is" to even that awesome climax. I always enjoyed this since i saw it with part 1 at age 5 in 86 with my dad, a very enjoyable sequel.

The UHD from Scream Factory is fantastic as it offers a terrific new restoration from the original camera negative as you think it was made in 2019. I mean you gave nice dolbyvision with fantastic coloring, the blood and clothing has never lookd better, skin tones are more fleshed out and new details. It's a huge improvement over previous versions of Halloween 2. The sound is great too and there's extras galore from the previous Scream version even new newspaper ad gallery.

My rating for the movie: four out of five.

I think instead of people bickering back and forth about this, if people really want to get to the bottom of it - start sharing more specific data instead of assuming people are just stupid if they don't see it.

FWIW, here are my findings:

SONY X700 - DolbyVision - Glitch does not exist

SONY X700 - HDR10 - Glitch is there, looks almost like blocky legos for multiple frames

XBOX Series X - HDR10 - Glitch is there, but just looks like several brief shimmers

In any case, that's all I can really share...I have spent way too much time looking at ladies ta ta's for you folks...I need to go wash my eyes out with soap. My TV is going to start to thinking I am straight if I keep up with all this freeze framing of lady parts.
The specific data has already been shared. In fact a screenshot showing the exact issue was posted, along with timeframes. It's been confirmed that even ripped discs show the issue. What more needs to be presented to Shout? If Shout isn't seeing it, then they aren't looking too hard. It's that simple. Even a ripped copy will show this on a monitor, and if by chance they try watching it in HDR10 on whatever monitors/TVs they use and don't see the issue, they can always try another display. I refuse to believe they can't replicate the issue.

It's unfortunate, but I'd be shocked if they did anything about it as it's not really a pressing defect. It's just a lousy encode. Has Shout ever replaced a disc due to terrible compression? Not that I know of.

There is no issue with DV. It's only with HDR10, so you wouldn't see the glitch in DV anyway

Checked all my 3 options by now (PC GPU, Panasonic 704, (new) PC CPU): Exact same pixelation with all 3.

If you're not getting it with the Oppo in SDR 1080p, the Oppo must be down-converting the restored 12 bit DV (or you're missing it - I doubt the Oppo is skipping those frames, since those are not faulty; one could tell by frame-by-frame playback though). You're also not the only one with such a configuration - I'm also downconverting to a 1080p/SDR projector, but with a 704 (which has no DV to begin with).

And re. missing it: That's not supposed to be condescending. I actually missed the first and worst one on the projector myself first despite knowing where it is and looking for it. Blink at the wrong moment or look at the wrong place (on a large screen in particular) and you'll miss it. If you playback frame-by-frame, it's always there in all its glory and always exactly the same (with regular playback always the same "pixelation flashes"). And the DV layer obviously fixes the 3 worst frames, even though I did the overlay only with the first/worst one.

It is NOT a player issue! It is an error on the disc itself! Just because a player will not display the ERROR depending on what features are on the player or TV, does not mean they are not there. This is not a problem with a player that can be addressed with firmware. Any fix would have to be with the disc. This is like having a DTS HD Master Audio or Dolby Atmos track with a ****ed up core track that only plays properly in the full mode or one of those HDCD compatible compact discs but ends up only playing properly in the rare CD player that can handle that extra signal. So what is the answer, people should go out and buy new TVs to play a ****ed up disc? There is nothing functioning wrong with these players or sets. They are functioning pproperly. Shout has a disc has a ****ed up HDR10 layer and HDR10 is mandatory in the spec for UHD!

Having watched I & II back to back - I found the soundtrack to part II distractingly bad. It just takes Carpenter's iconic themes and adds weird synthesizer effects over them, which sound out of sync?

Only thing that I wouldn't put in is the alternate ending, the og ending is perfect. Overall I'd like an extended cut of HII, it'd go very well with the extended cut of H78.
There's been a few fan edits that do exactly that - take the theatrical cut and splice in the TV inserts where they belong. The original one was called 'The Ultimate Cut' and circulated widely on the bootleg markets in the very early 2000s when AMC's airings of the TV cut were common. It's probably the most in-depth (to my knowledge), but my personal nitpick is that for scenes where alternate takes were used, both versions of the scenes play back-to-back.

I'm in a Facebook group and someone made an updated version in 1080p using the previous release and upscaling the TV footage/cropping it to 1.78:1 while hard matting the 2.35:1 theatrical footage. It's a pretty neat experience, though the cropping results in some of the TV footage being cramped at times.

Paramount doesn't own the remaining Halloween films. Paramount is the current distributor and now has a 49% share of the Miramax, but the latter is still the owner for the films.

The two Rob Zombie films were released under The Weinstein Company, which went defunct for reasons we all know. Lantern Entertainment/Spyglass purchased the remnants of the company, and Lionsgate is their current distributor.

Halloween II (1981) is my favorite Halloween sequel. The Gothic addition to the music I think is amazing.

I watched H2 for a third time the other night , this time I managed to stay away to the end. I really loved it. Though i guess because of 4K you can see that myers' eyes are intact just closed and blood comes from the mask and not his eyes... Ah well.

I loved the shot of him on fire walking down the hallway. Though you can see the bulky flame suit but , what can you do ? Great shot regardless.

Next ill be watching Halloween 2018 then halloween kills.

I hope 6 and the rest get released in 4K (minus the rob zombie movies, i dont care about those)
