What do you mean they weren't cancelled? A passing homage or callback does not mean they weren't cancelled/written out. They absolutely were. The only film that officially exists in this new timeline is the first film. None of the others happened now.
They still exist, you can watch them anytime. They just don’t acknowledge them as canon because it would’ve been impossible to restart the franchise with JLC. My point is that they don’t dislike the sequels or think they are better than them, as you implied.

I don't know how the new filmmakers feel about the original sequels, but John Carpenter sure doesn't like part II. He's made that pretty clear over the years.
