Posted this in another thread but worth posting here too I think.

The picture quality was slightly better and audio was better too. And nothing felt missing from the different AR in Dolby because a lot of that extra picture is just empty information. If it had truly been important the rest of the releases (disc, other streaming sites) would have received the taller AR too.

It makes sense for 3D because it creates a more immersive picture for the 3D itself, but in regular 2D it’s almost, if not completely, worthless at home. I think this is just IMAX and DTS trying to stay relevant in the home video market.

The fine print at the end of the promo video just says Disney+ subscription required. Curious what ends up being the case.

To be fair, in many of these cases the IMAX ratio switches were planned in advance (I believe even in the screenplay stage with Guardians movies for instance). Iron Man 1 though, got its IMAX release years later though, but it was just for the big action/effects sequences still.

I saw Black Widow, Shang-Chi, and Eternals all in scope theatrically, and while I’m excited to see the expanded versions of the first two, you can tell they were composed with scope in mind and fit that frame just fine (I think BW also has relatively little expanded sequences). Though with Eternals the framing did seem cramped in a number of the big epic shots, and I imagine Zhao (who is a fan of IMAX and even did an expanded version of Nomadland) had some IMAX framing in mind.

Forget the marketing shpiel, you won't need an "IMAX Enhanced" TV to watch these just as you don't need an "IMAX Enhanced" TV to watch current IE content.

I think Dune is the record with 73 minutes of 1.43 footage. Though Dunkirk is just behind it with 72 minutes and is real 15/70 footage plus a far higher % of the running time.

IMAX just posted on Twitter a video for one of the Russo Brothers talking about experiencing all of Marvel films in IMAX ratios at home. Most of the viewer’s comments say “put it out on a 4K Blu-Ray disc!” I’d tweet out to them voicing that it should also be on a disc. Tag James Gunn in it as well since he is 100% a 4K UHD Blu-ray supporter and he may push his Guardians films to get the IMAX ratios on 4K UHD Discs. The only movies I really care about in IMAX are Infinity War and Endgame. The rest are pretty good in their scope ratios.

I’m assuming people will even be able to watch these versions on their phones if they so desire. I feel like the “IMAX enhanced” TV campaign was a bust anyway.

Well - at the time of it's birth it was a push for Samsung's HDR10+. But I guess that went down like a fat kid on a seesaw.

If Disney+ are bringing DTS to them it's not going to do LG owners much good!

Also I've lost track of these releases, Jumanji: The Next Level is listed as IMAX Enhanced on UHD, it has the expanded ratio?

Every action scene bar one in BW is in IMAX

No "IMAX Enhanced" movie released on UHD disc has an expanded ratio AFAIK

IMAX enhanced doesn't mean expanded ratio necessarily.
Venom is IE on streaming and it was filmed 2.39 anamorphic.

This whole IMAX shenanigans is a joke! It's nothing but a marketing ploy. if a person doesn't have a 52ft x 72ft screen in their home, then it's not real IMAX. You can't experience the same visual effect of a real IMAX presentation on a 55", 65" screen. You're only fooling yourselves. You can't drive a Pinto and pretend you're driving a Lamborghini. You can't live like a multi-billionaire and making only $25.000 a year. It's wishful thinking.

Disney reserves DV and other goodies for streaming only, so definitely not surprised.

Likely just the super compressed DTS:X audio - which may or may not work on certain devices - did they even get their lossy DTS-HD HR to work with it properly? They got their butts handed to them with DD+ and now AC-4 for ATSC 3.0 - DTS actually withdrew their codec from ATSC 3.0 consideration after AC-4 was publicly demonstrated.
