It's an overall ok looking disc but one of my weakest looking 4ks.
They said there will be a remaster 4k of GHOSTBUSTERS in 2022. They don't remaster 4k movies because they look great and want to make them look worse. Some people on here call every movie on 4k "looks great". Best to take names down and not trust their opinion. I learned the hard way which cost me like $150 in movies that did not live up to the hype they posted.

lol at spending 150 bux on movies because of their" hype" maybe you should reevaluate your purchase habits.

Is there a strong indication that GB 1 & 2 UHD are being revisited?

If not then I may pick up GB1 while it's on sale.

There was one post about it from Twitter handle Geekgab about a month ago claiming the two films will get reissued in Dolby Vision like Sony did with Labyrinth. Other then that no other information.

If Sony does a brand spanking new 4k transfer, I would be mightily surprised. Like their few other Dolby Vision re-releases thus far, they seem to use the current 4k master in their hands and then just do an HDR re-grade with Dolby Vision, with or without the 12 bit video enhancement. They might bump the bitrate a little bit, but whether that amounts to a visible improvement in the compression compared to the original 4k release is yet to be determined.

Incorrect. Geekgab got it from here.

We saw the big difference with HALLOWEEN 4k from SHOUT! this year.

I had rented the current 4k GHOSTBUSTERS and I didn't like it. I still stick with my dvd but when I heard they were working on another 4k remaster that I will buy. So I know it's on sale for $10 but I wouldn't buy it.

That's not Sony. There are other variables involved with that particular title.

The remaster is not going to get rid of the heavy grain inherent in the OCN's. Maybe the HDR grade and color will be a little better, but that's it.

And to stick with your DVD??? Come on! That looks like crap in comparison.

Again my point was that a new 4k remaster is coming just like there was for HALLOWEEN (1978). So save your money till that remaster comes and just watch the dvd. But don't buy the current 4k of GHOSTBUSTERS and save your money for the new 4k. That's my point.

If it's anything like Labyrinth 35 then they won't "regrade" a thing. The grade is done. It was done in Dolby Vision at source like five years ago. The difference with the revised disc will be that it's got the DV metadata appended to it (Sony don't do FEL because they master their base layers to 4000 nits, mostly) and comes with a superior encode. Labyrinth 35's average bitrate is only 10 Mb/s higher than the old UHD but it made a visible difference, the grain is more fine and less 'electronic' looking than on the old UHD.

May not even be just the bitrate itself but other compression settings that made the grain look betterer, in any case I'm greatly looking forward to revisiting the Ghostbusters on the new UHDs as I've been begging for a new encode for years. NOT that it's a bad one but like with Labyrinth's original UHD it comes down on the side of looking a bit harsher than it should (not helped by the Light Cannon™️ HDR grade admittedly), so with the new encode plus the DV to tame those ridiculous highlights PLUS the inclusion of the OG 2.0 audio I am gonna be one happy camper.

I remember Criterion had GHOSTBUSTERS on laserdisc rights back in the 90s'. So does those rights carry over to 4k?

I hope they do a remaster of this. I only get movies with slips.. This movie with slip is at outrageous prices.
