Well if Saving Private Ryan gets releases on HDM, it will be on both formats as SPR was Directed by Steven Spielberg.

Pepar,

Been long time - your caustic comments and level-headedness (well ok I'm reaching) are more than welcome.

I love ya Penton Man, but you can be such a tease! Or I'm just really not that smart...
AT&T - simply because it has homonym-like qualities (i.e. it sounds the same or similar) - I'm an artist, business makes no sense to me. As a north of the 49th'er isn't AT&T a direct competitor to VIACOM?

Exactly. The deals done and a statement won't change a thing.
Unless there's a lot of important financial people and/or feds sniffing around it

And one wonders what they're going to say and what they can say?

Anyways, I'm eager as heck to see who it is so I know who I can put some of the blame on for artifically extending this format war.

Decent enough guess. I'm just trying to imagine a company that doesn't give two hoots about high def optical media that would fit the critera that I know for how this little business deal came about.

This company has no affiliation with the HD-DVD group whatsoever and doesn't give two rips about HDM. So yeah, AT&T could very well be a likely prospect.

Remember: Ethics aside, this little deal was techincally done within the letter of the law.

Everybody has been blaming the obvious which of course is Micro$oft but if I remember correctly, not to long ago they had partners in crime. I haven't read anybody mention them, they are inTel (might have missed it), anyway they seem to be a major supporter in the red camp.

Just a guess.

A good guess, but isn't Intel an HD-DVD supporter or part of their group?

It was my understanding that this company had NO affiliation whatsoever.

We shall see...

I agree as their NYSE symbol is "T"...

FWIW... AT&T is nicknamed "T" as is their stock ticker represented by an actual "T". They're also allied with Microsoft in the video arena as MS is the vendor for their IPTV platform.

When Penton-Man posted the "clue", AT&T was the first thing that popped into my head. I really really really really hope it's not the case. U-verse needs to be tied to more clunky hardware/software like ... well insert any simile that fits here...the choice is yours.

Edit: Oh, and AT&T has no affiliation whatsoever with the HD DVD group. Their connections are only to MS.

Just a guess.

I think if it was intel, Penton-Man's clue would have just been "intity". Capitalizing the T focuses on the "T" aspect and not the similarity in the beginning of "Intel" and "Entity".

That's exactly correct as anyone involved in or who follows IT knows. There's news right now about them trying to stuff the ballot box of a Swedish standards body deliberating OOXML. It is a never-ending story. But we are digressing, I hope, aren't we? I can get this chit-chat nearly anywhere.

What I want to know is the implications, if any, for upcoming 1.1 BD players with a 2.0 player announced??? Insiders, please!

Why would AT&T have anything to do with this? What were they wiretapping the line when the deal went down?

Intel is absolutely in the HDDVD camp. They really like the idea of Wintel HDi boxes on every settop

Agreed. They're my best overall guess as well.

That's kind of the whole point. See Bogey's post.

Maybe if there is an announcement it will be something left of field, something nobody considered.

From everything I've garnered from Insiders around here and such...that's a distinct possibility.

someone has stated elsewhere on the forum that thinking outside the box might be appropriate i.e. this might be for future considerations.

Doesn't AT&T make great use of MS software? Does AT&T have an interest in Music/Video downloads?

ted
