The 1.85 vs. 1.78 issue is tricky, as different studios handle this differently. Universal and Sony will release actual 1.85:1 transfers, but other studios like WB and Paramount open every 1.85:1 film up slightly to 1.78:1. These transfers aren't cropped - they're actually opened up slightly so you get a little more on the top and bottom. Not optimal, but not terrible in my opinion.

When I said Fanboys was 1.85:1, I was just saying it's about a full 16x9 image, and not a 2.35:1 or 2.40:1 film which could be potentially cropped/opened up by Alliance (which they have a history of doing, like on Se7en and Outlander).

Outlander was confirmed to not be open-matte. The film was cropped on the sides, no artificial pan & scan, to 1.78:1 widescreen. Fanboys on the other hand is open-matte 1.78:1 but some television's overscan will correct the framing to 1.85:1.

Do you have the Fanboys BD already to know it's open-matte to 1.78:1, and not cropped slightly? I would normally just assume this to be true, but I was blown away that Alliance would crop Outlander to artificially create 1.78:1 - I didn't think they'd sink THAT low.

I am going by the assumption that they are using the Weinstein Company elements, I can compare between the US DVD which is 1.78:1 and the BD next week. Hopefully, they did not trim the sides slightly to make it 1.78:1.

Hey Everyone.

I just got Fanboys from my work and I'm sad to inform you that Alliance has decided not to put any extras on the Blu-ray disc. I can't understand why they would choose to do this considering the DVD has extras but whatever.

P.S The movie looks great and the audio is good as well so I'm still happy I purchased it but it is disappointing that Alliance didn't included the bonus features from the DVD.

My copy did not arrive yet. But I'm sad to hear about the extras, hopefully its DTS-HD MA and not DTS-HD High Res.

Well that sucks about the bonus features... Guess I'll rent the DVD just to see the features.

What kind of Special Features did the DVD have anyways?

Any other good Canadian releases that I could order at the same time?
Open to suggestions...

Do you have the ability to tell us whether or not it's Region Free?

Actually, if they are repackaging the US release then it will have extras. Outlander which is a Canadian exclusive BD does have all the extras but the framing is cropped. Its the majority of films they release themselves that have no extras.

I still cannot believe there is no U.S. release slated for Fanboys.

Actually... only the Canadian catalogue exclusives & a few from this new wave of Weinstein titles have no extras. Lets not lie to people now. Starting to sound like a "n00b" yourself.

Yep, no extras but its DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound and its 1080p. Partial win!

So I know this is probably a dumb question and I will get some ridicule for asking But If a order this Bluray from Canada will it play on my PS3 here in the states. I think that it should but I don't want to take a chance that it might not. I thought that Canada and the U.S. were the same region coding but I don't want to be wrong. Any help would be great.

Thank you
