Well as I normally don't do prequels this is a pleasant surprise in terms of presentation and in terms of attention to detail and storyline. As stories go this is every bit as intriguing and every bit as brutal as The Sopranos series itself. It certainly doesn't pull any punches and so much better for that it is.
The surprise detail of

[Show spoiler] casting Michael Gandolfini in the role of his late Father as the Teenage Tony Soprano , whose mannerisms and looks more than mirror his father's

is a genius move.
