I know films have to be region locked but I'm surprised that the extras disc would require to be region locked. It's what is holding me back on this release as well. And no, I'm not getting a region free player as I just spent $500 on my UHD player. Hopefully one day Rubenstein will eventually smarten up and make a realistic deal with a North American company.

I could be misremembering, but I thought a US studio had agreed to pay his price and then he reneged on the deal at the very last second?

You don't have to have a 4K TV to play 4K discs. I got my 4K player a few days before my TV, and it worked fine with my 1080p TV.

I had a 12+ year old LCD 1080 tv until recently that I watched 4k discs on and sure it wasn't perfect but it got me by until I could upgrade.

I think Rubin whatever his name it is just likes to stick it to the US audience for some reason. Not that he would be the only one in entertainment with that mindset.

For anyone not willing to buy a region free player, you can always just order from amazon uk a region B player. You'll need one of those plug converter for the power plug (those are cheap anyhow) but it won't cost you half as much as a region free player. That's what I did, it's cheap and I only use it for uk releases anyway (I use my ps4 for my region A stuff).

He just has zero respect for Romero's legacy.

I've seen this suggested before, so I thought I'd check it out. Cheapest decent player I see is £70. Added to cart, VAT removed, and including shipping it comes to $110 USD. That's about what I paid for my completely region free player, not just UK/Europe, and the player comes with a guarantee as well.

A friend sold me his for 30$ last year. Figured they were cheaper than that. I'm sure there's better ways to get them, I just haven't done the research (or need to since i'm good for now).

What a strange bunch of claims then.

Yeah, when I went out on Amazon.co.uk price checking for the "Region B player plus power converter" option, the costs with buying and shipping weren't better than just grabbing a region free player from 220 Electronics (been very happy with that purchase). Maybe I wasn't good enough at finding deals.

There was a forum member who had post in his signature on how to buy a cheap usable UK player, but by the time I checked it the prices/links were outdated.

Yup. I've seen that user's posts as well and don't really understand their "mission" at all. I've had mine from 220 Electronics for almost 2 years now and zero issues.

Just do what I did, if the breakdowns happen right for you.
First my BD player died, so I grabbed a 4K player since it didn't cost much extra. Couple months later, my TV took a shit so I got a 4K TV to replace it.
Like others have said, you can watch 4K discs on a 1080P TV, you just won't get all the benefits. Future-proof yourself as things crap out. Next thing you know, you're caught back up with dope new stuff.
Sadly I did not get a region free 4K player, but my old RF BD player still works, it was the R1 only player that died.
