I can't believe other people didn't realize the second (fired in desperation) torpedo, especially since it's also there in the sound mix. I've noticed it since I first saw the movie, Dec. 7, 1979 (where the projectionist had annoyingly screwed up and the top half of the frame was on the bottom & vice-versa for the first 5 minutes of the movie).

I'm anxiously awaiting this set. I'm hoping it gets a deluxe treatment. With that said, shouldn't this discussion be in the streaming or movie forums?

What would ideally be in a deluxe set? A film score on CD? A diecast shuttlecraft model? McDonald's commercials? New restoration documentary?

Thankfully Paramount has been pretty good with putting their streaming stuff on physical media. Now, if only Disney would wake up, too.

The idea of including the score on a CD for this release would be a sad one since La-La Land Records' 3-Disc set of the score (Plus the 50th Anniversary Collection that adds another TMP track not on that set) would be hard to include. It was limited and saw all of it's copies sold out. If there was going to be a CD, it'd be the original album. Pray it's not the 1999 Album.

Not from TMP since Shuttlecrafts don't really play a huge part in the film. Workerbee maybe, but I'd settle for a model of the V'Ger Vessel since it's reveal is an exclsuive part to the Director's Edition.

I really hope there is. So much has happened since the original DVD release and so many team members have tons of stories to tell. The original making of had a pretty cool title. "Redirecting the Future". I'd call this new one "A Wise Direction".

I was thinking of the travel pod.

Although that looks kind of crummy now that I see it like that.

I'm not sure what else I need to know about the fillum itself but I'd LOVE a lengthy piece on the DE restoration.

Actually over at the Facebook Star Trek the motion picture Appreciation Society they have strongly hinted that they are putting together an all-new documentary on the current restoration. I'm not a big fan of bonus extras besides deleted scenes but I definitely love restoration documentaries.
I haven't seen season 4 of discovery yet but there have been some rumors that the mystery of that season has something to do with v'ger. It's a long shot but if by some stretch there did turn out to be a connection then right at the end of Discovery season 4 would be a good time to announce the release date for the upgraded Director's Edition.

When did they say this? Last I heard, Daren specifically said he can't say anything past P+ streaming.

If I were to consider a deluxe set I would consider a reprint if the original programme from the Cinema release. My parents have the original at their house and its nice to flick through now and again. You could resize like they did for Towering Inferno deluxe DVD set.

Also being Paramount they may go the Godfather route with some sort of book and lithographs or something.

It would be amazing if they did the Special Extended Version on disc too only available in the deluxe set in full widescreen. They probably have all the footage now by completing the DE.

I have one of those. It would be nice to include it to show people that going to a film was a different experience.

Dirty secret time:

My favorite Star Trek movies are Star Trek 1, V and II.

Let the lynching begin!

Actually more freaked out that you used "1" for the first movie and "II" and "V"for the other ones. LOL.
There are some OCD people out there in the world you know.

I'm not saying it won't happen, but you said that it was mentioned by the team, and since I follow the team, I was wondering what the source was.

This and the theatrical cut at least w/o DNR, but I'm not too hopeful for that. I've already set aside some cash for whatever the most attractive deluxe edition is.

I do wonder if after going through all the elements and scanning them to modern standards if someone brought up the possibilty of taking another crack at doing a Theatrical/Special Longer Edition 4K now that the elements are available to them. Given the recent 4K UHD of TMP, they could sell this as the first 4K presentation of the 'legit' Theatrical Cut without the modifications done on the previous UHD. Plus seamless branching could make all of this work on just one disc, right? It would have to be better than the so-called 'Director's Cut' presentation of ALIEN on 4K.

Wasn't there talk of adding some of the television version to this cut?

Yep. About 22 years ago when they did just that for the original Director's Edition on DVD. They pretty much incorporated all the character moments from that edition and none of the clutter. My biggest fear for this new 4K edition was seeing the description

  • 4K Presentation of the Director's Edition with Special Longer Edition scenes presented in SD due to lost footage

That would have made for a nasty viewing experience.
