Actually he does do that. He just posted a positive review for Midnight Mass on his main channel. He also has a 2nd channel called Critical Drinker After Hours and he talks more about smaller movies that he is interested in. He posted a positive review of a movie from 1988 called The Beast two days ago. He even did one about Kelly's Heroes from 1970 and a 1981 German film called Das Boot.

I dont agree with him nor really anyone all the time. But, in this case I felt he made some great points. Perhaps people are mad because he struck a nerve? His plot synopsis about a theoretical remake of Back the Future was particularly funny and sadly probably quite accurate. Good thing Bob Zemeckis has blocked that from ever happening.
I don't agree with him on everything. He gave a bad review for The Old Guard on Netflix, but I actually thought that was a fun movie. I like his videos because he can talk about things from a writing perspective, since he's a successful author.

Even if he did watch lesser known movies, he wouldn't talk about them, because there's no money in it. Or less money in it. He has the gall to call some of his videos "The Drinker Recommends," as if those movies haven't been recommended tens of thousands of times before and even need recommendations. That's the kind of title you use for something obscure, not friggin' Jaws or Fight Club or Blade Runner.

What he and a large part of his audience probably think of foreign movies:

People are naturally fearful of things/those they love moving on without them, and vice versa. Because fictional characters and universes can potentially be kept static, an unhealthy sense of control and dependence is established. This is negative for everyone and everything involved.

Reboots and remakes have been around for as long as there have been movies. It's not some kind of new phenom and I don't have the energy or a rabid youtube fanbase that demands content to bother agonising over it. I do have the energy to type some glib shit on a forum complaining about people complaining about it, yes, but that's what forums are for!

Well - I respect your opinion but I myself own and enjoy a lot of foreign films. Subtitles and all. Good movies are good movies. Doesnt matter where they were made.

I don't know a lot of successful authors who run monetized YouTube channels shitting on pop culture.

How is he "pooping" on pop culture though? He seems to be a big fan of all kinds of well known and popular franchises. Star Wars, LOTR, Avengers, the new Spider Man films and on and on.

Granted - he does NOT care for many of the suspect entries into those franchises and has an issue with some of the sequels and remakes. He's far from alone in that regard though.

Well you do now. Drinker's channels aren't for "shitting" on pop culture. He talks about things that he likes just as much as he talks about things that he hates.

I've heard of this guy. He constantly complains about the dearth of originality in modern film. He also wrote a book that was marketed as "Jason Bourne meets Jack Reacher."

(insert snickering here)

Sad that Drinker has to stoop to defending himself on random boards...

Oh and I'm going to be absolutely blunt here: Channels like him are nothing more than outrage factories designed to make as much money as possible over the slightest changes to anything with brand recognition. I can't friggin stand this s**t any longer and I hope to God we mature and get away from things like this instead of wallowing in perpetual misery.

Not at all - I was just throwing that out there. .

Whatever works for ya. I thought it was interesting but to each their own. His "5 phases" shtick is dead on though and happens constantly. It ends up being the "fans fault". That doesnt seem right to me. Without us they got nothing and would all be working jobs at Target.

I enjoyed the new Scream, Ghostbusters, Star Wars TV series, Candyman, Bond, Fast & Furious, Halloween 18 and even Halloween Kills (despite knowing the script was terrible, it delivered on the gnarly crunchiness).

I feel no guilt, I never shall. These things are not even close to the only things I watch, but I love nostalgia as much as I love exciting new fresh movies.

If and when these things become unwatchably awful I'll stop watching them.

There's an unlimited amount of media out there, more than anyone could ever watch in a lifetime, it seems weird to get pissy about one thing being more popular than the other.

Just don't watch it. Watch something else. The options are literally endless.

That's the thing with a lot of YouTube people who do this. They know they can earn tons of hits and basically make a career out of moaning and groaning. Cause negativity sells like no other.
