Scream 5 is better made than Scream 4 but Scream 4 had the better cast and motive

Or are most people just ignoring that awful writing still, cause hey....we got a new Scream movie!!
It amazes me how we were constantly reminded how big of fans the directors were and wanted to give the fans a great sequel but yet missed details like this while writing the script. It's also disappointing that nothing about Scream 2 and 3 was mentioned once again.

It is definitely a success if not a ‘hit’. It has already made over $105million worldwide on a $25mil budget. A good tule of thumb to judge whether a film was a success at a BO is to take the budget and multiply it x 3. If the BO results in that or a higher number, it is generally considered a success.

Same-day streaming had muddied that a bit (i.e. sometimes they’re still considered successful even if the BO was lower depending on the viewership on streaming with same-day streaming); but since Scream (2022) is theaters only and it has already made well above its budget x 3 it definitely qualifies as a good box office run.

My theatre is big so it will still have it playing this weekend, on two smaller screens though.
I doubt it’s going to be removed from that many theaters when it is still #2 at the box office and are only two new wide releases (neither of which are blockbusters). Probably next weekend with 3 new wide releases is when you might see it leave more locations.

Couldn't agree more.

[Show spoiler]Dewey's the lovable goof who, over the course of several movies, earned the respect required to become Sheriff by Scream 4. He's the heart and soul of the franchise if you will. This movie relegates him to being a jobless drunk living in a trailer park pining for his ex, and then he gets preposterously overpowered and gutted by a petite teenage girl. That's a ceremonious end for the character? If that's ceremonious I wouldn't want to know what unceremonious looks like. Haha!

The writing is complete and utter trash.

[Show spoiler]His death is a major focus of the centre of the movie that motivates both of our classic characters. It's dragged out painfully with a sense of absolute finality whilst the killer tells him "it's an honor". It's one of the most memorable, painful and ceremonial deaths in the series.

[Show spoiler]Dewey is a loveable doofus who continually charges headfirst into danger, is easily stabbed or knocked out (including ALREADY by a teenage girl in 4) and is continuously confused by the rules of the genre he's found himself in. He tried to make a wife out of the worst possible partner for him, even admitting it won't work AS he's proposing.

Him ending up alone felt organic to those characters and that relationship. Also he wasn't "overpowered", he absolutely overpowered the killer and then was taken by surprise afterward.

I hated Dewey dying as much as anyone, he's my favourite character, but he ended up in the exact direction he was always heading in. Heroic, daft and pining for a woman who's in love with fame.

To be fair to Amber, do any of us truly know if it's THAT difficult to gut a man? And if so, please tell us how you know.

Still can't believe how much of a step down this was. Hopefully the next one will be better (4 was a nice rebound after 3). But of course
[Show spoiler]no Dewey now.

It takes a little bit of muscle, but I believe a teenage girl can do it.

(I've hunted deer and done all that stuff involved after shooting one, so I'm assuming a human stomach would be about the same when factoring in clothes.)

I am so not a murderer, I swear.

Your excuses for this atrociously badly conceived and executed end for
[Show spoiler]Dewey
are hilariously desperate and wrongheaded.

Given how terrible 5cream was I’m in no rush to see the next instalment these clueless goofballs pull out their collective ass. I’m not funding any more of this anti-Scream dreck.

The movies and this franchise will be just fine without your $15.

I don’t doubt it. With mongs like yourself happy to cough up for this crap they’ll keep churning it out.

If it wasn’t for people like you who love dreck and hate good films we would have had real Screams 5 and 6 made by Craven and Williamson.

Well done.

Sorry, after the garbage pile that was Scream 4 I’m glad some fresh talent got their hands on the franchise. I have no interest in what a Scream 5 or 6 would have been under Craven/Williamson if Scream 4 was any indication of what we would have gotten.

Sorry you think it is “dreck” but you definitely seem to be in the minority on your opinion of this movie. It’s widely loved by fans and critics and is a hit whether you liked it or not.

We can agree to disagree. I hate 4 more with every rewatch. It’s the only Scream I can’t get myself to like.

Well, according to my poll you seem to be in the minority.

Scream 5 getting wrecked by Scream 4. Just like Jill would’ve ate these Stab fanboys up.
