Apparently the best way to get 60fps on console is to download the PS4 version on a PS5 (provided you have the digital edition). I'm likely sticking with the PC version but the lack of Ultrawide support is very disappointing.

Is that for the PS4 pro version? Is that because the PS5 version doesn't include a 60 fps mode? That would stink. I'll look into it more.

EDIT: Okay, if the camera is looking down in PS5, XBSX, 60 fps, but looking up, about 45 to 50 fps.

The performance modes on Series X and PS5 reportedly don't lock to 60fps. But yeah, if you have the digital version of the game apparently you can use download the PS4 version on a PS5 and get locked 60fps if you're willing to sacrifice some image quality. Meanwhile, the Series X has VRR to help mask frame-pacing issues.

Anyway, I was surprised to see that the Steam version is playable and I just finished the first 30 minutes. I got to the point where you access the first open area and I can't wait to dive in later tonight. I kind of regret playing so much Nioh over the last few weeks since I'm still wanting to use those controls. Gonna take some adjusting getting back into Souls-style controls.

Thanks. PC and PS5 are said to be the best versions for graphics, with more, larger plant life.

That's cool you're playing Elden Ring already. Can you go wherever you want or is the map locked on the surface for areas? Enjoy the game. I'll play it soon I hope.

That just means it’s with the Store Pick-up. They won’t actually let you pick it up until release.

That's true, I think heavy fines would be issued if Best Buy sold the game tonight as a disc, before the official release date.

Elden Ring will have a large game world with lots of cliffs to climb, along with a day/night cycle and many enemy creatures to confront or avoid in the game's world. You can walk on foot, or ride horseback if you like, but currently no ability to fly has been reported.

The first 20 minutes or so were linear and now I'm exploring my first open area. It's not huge but I'm assuming this is essentially a tutorial area. Luckily the game doesn't just drop you in a massive, bloated map. There's some very deliberate level design going on so far, which is such a nice change compared to most open world games. I hope it continues this way but I have no idea what comes next since I've avoided gameplay videos like the plague.

I am playing through the first Horizon too so that I can play the sequel. If I had finished the first installment I would not be playing Elden Ring right now... maybe lol

Hopefully it's a fun adventure worth exploring despite the challenge which can be frustratingly difficult at times. The good news is they said you can back out of a boss fight, build up your strength on weaker enemies, and return later, stronger.

The 97 meta critic rating definitely gives hope that it could be an awesome, fun adventure game, despite the difficulty.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize they weren't using any raytracing, and are still unable to reach a solid 60 fps on PS5. Hopefully at 55 fps or less, it's in 4K resolution. I heard good things about the look of the game on PS5.

Played about 4-hours total last night and had an incredible time. Excited to jump back into it this morning after I get the kid off to school. I've taken out a few mini-bosses but the first true boss got me last night so I'm going to spend the morning doing some more exploring to get a bit stronger before I try again. It's a shame that the PC version is poorly optimized (shady anti-cheat software is certainly a factor) but I didn't experience any major issues so far.
