Am I right in thinking Get Carter will be BFI's 3rd 4K release?

As they haven’t announced their full Summer slate, it’s perfectly possible there could be another between The Proposition and its release, but as of now it is the third announced release.

I received one of the items from my first ever order at Rarewaves, and that prompted me to order a few more from there. At a little more than 15 quid each (even if I include shipping), not bad. All blind-buys but I have good hopes.

Piccadilly stars the alluring Anna May Wong, a femme fatale of her time, and the couple of clips I've seen suggest a stylish urban film. Nineteen Eighty Four stars the wonderful Peter Cushing in the lead, looking forward to see how it compares with the Michael Radford movie. And from the Second Run label, Beauty and the Beast is an adaptation of the well-known fairy tale by Juraj Herz whose small but amazing filmography includes The Shop on High Street and my personal favorite, the incredible black comedy horror film The Cremator.

With the announcement of Get Carter, I'm now wondering if a BFI 4K of Performance could happen.

I love The Devils but it too often overshadows Russell's other films in this discussion - Savage Messiah still doesn't even have a DVD release in the UK! It should be an absolute priority for the BFI before they revisit The Devils

As someone who's trying to tick off the 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die list, what is the best way to watch The Devils?

Which version of the book? It gets updated every year, since it was first published & for every new film that appears in each updated one, the same number of old films get removed so as to keep it at 1001.

Well Bait certainly didn't. The LE/first pressing sold out BEFORE it's release date.

It's certainly the best official way to watch the film, but frankly, I think anybody breaking their Devils cherry should seek out a version with the Rape of Christ sequence first. It's an important scene and I always miss it when I re-watch the DVD.

I use the list on Letterboxd. Always the latest version and you can easily see for every movie on what streaming service it is available. Or of course, where to buy the dvd / bluray.

I wouldn't get too obsessed with that list...i finished it a few years ago & it took me a while to track down the remaining 4 or 5 that i was having trouble finding but there are thousands of other movies not on the list that are just as deserving.
Just my opinion.

I also think the title is a little melodramatic, unless you really are on your deathbed thinking about the films you haven’t watched. It’s totally okay to live a lifetime and never watch an important film!

Or an unimportant one either.
Buddha never watched either and look what happened to him.
Not bad for a fella who spent all his time under a tree reading Viz when he should have been meditating.

Has anyone made a list of what other titles might be potential candidates for 4K upgrades from BFI?

I don't know what any of this means, or how to go about doing that.

It's not the only source for my watchlist, by any means.

Agreed. But the BFI DVD is the 'uncut' theatrical version as seen by audiences for 31 years so it will always be an official version even if we ever get an authorised release of the actual uncut version.
