I didn't have any problems with my copy, you probably just got a bad copy, maybe they left it out on the loading docks in the sun, and it got warped a little. I don't know. Just take it back, they shouldn't give you a hard time about exchanging it.

Thanks,

Confe, I have "The Descent" and it locks at one point in the film. It's more like a hiccup as it will stop for 30 seconds then keep going. I haven't heard anyone else have the problem. I put it down to the disc.

We are all defensive about this great board. Unfortunately we had a few people here to just troll so don't take Whippers comments personally. Post more often in threads you find interesting or start your own(which are more positive). That way you have a "track record". Welcome to the boards, BTW.

Default Powerful PCM soundtrack and PQ

What i like from this review is how PCM soundtrack can leave a reviewer feeling shock and impressed.

"Among the sounds that caused me to turn my head was the scratchy scurrying of one of the ghosts; it really did sound like it was in the room. I was also impressed with the sound effect of footfalls on the floor above the onscreen characters" a quote from the Audio part.

I just want to say one thing: WOW!!!!!! (as far as the PQ is concerned)

I finally got around to seeing this movie last night on Blu and all I have to say is this movie has one of the best picture qualities I have ever seen. Period.

The movie itself is just ok, it was fairly entertaining, not great though. On the other hand, I urge anyone who wants a reference PQ title to show off Blu-ray's capabilities to own a copy of this disc. This sound was pretty amazing as well in 5.1 LPCM.

I saw it last night as well, netflix rental, and the PQ for the outdoor scenes were top notch. Wife jumped a few times, movie was decent as far as new thrillers go.

Well, I certainly don't think it was a horrible movie. I guess your standards might be a bit too high for today's movie qualities. I rented the movie and just thought to myself that it had a great PQ and in the process was fairly entertained by it. That's all.

Um, actually both people that said the movie was good on this page said that they rented the movie, not bought. I actually did buy the movie and unlike the grotesque movies that are rated "R"--as you have said they cannot be PG-13 and be a true horror film--I found it quite refreshing. Now, again this too is an opinion, but even if you don't like the film, it's worth a look just because of the PQ.

But when i checked it in movies.com and has the horrible rating of the movie. They rated "F". The fans rated "B-". Is the movie overall really that bad??? Huh???? Tell me if this movie is worth purchasing or not.

Can anyone compare the individual release of The Messengers with the double-feature release version? Any fans out there?

Just wondering as I've read that The Messengers had a very solid Picture and Audio quality. Was curious how much compression the double-feature release has.

I only own the Double Feature, but I'm confident when i say that I assume it's the exact same transfer/quality. Early Blu Rays from 2006-2007 were frequently BD-25's, and this recent Double Feature is a BD-50. The file sizes on both Freedomland and The Messengers are 21.9GB and 18.9GB which look to be pretty standard BD-25 fare from that time. If your lucky someone else may chime in to confirm/deny that the transfers are the same, but I think it's pretty safe to assume they're the same from what I can see.

It should be the same master but a different encode as Sony provided Mill Creek with it. The biggest differences are the Sony disc is PCM 5.1 with extras while Mill Creek's double feature disc presents it in DTS-HD MA 5.1 with none of the extras.

I have the original Sony release so I don't really have a major reason to get the double feature. And I know Freedomland comes with it but the movie just didn't pique my interest. At least not enough to have two copies of The Messengers around.

Kristen Stewart could make a good scream queen if she committed to more horror movies.
