I haven't had a chance to play KH3 yet but the switch to the ultra realistic type of graphics a la FF7 Remake is a bit jarring imo.

It seems like they intend to connect it as a direct sequel, so i just don't know how the switch to ultra realism came about.

[Show spoiler]This appears to be the world of Verum Rex, an in-universe game created by Square Enix which is heavily inspired by Final Fantasy Versus XIII. Sora fights the main character of Verum Rex, Yozora, in the Secret Episode of KH3 Re-Mind, in the same world seen in the trailer, Quadratum.

Also, KH has crossed over with actual live-action Disney properties in the past, and it's also looked pretty realistic back then. Like, this is what the Pirates of the Caribbean world looked like in KH3:
