Got mine shipped in a box with air pouches, arrived in near perfect condition today with just a barely there cut on the spine. I'm happy with it.

The app says it has one "on display" about 20 miles away from me but not for sale. Any idea what that means? (I mean I know what that literally means, but how do they have one for display but not sale)

That makes sense, but would it get returned to available inventory in their system? In my business history, we've always had distressed/QC hold/reject categories so the numbers add up, but these classes don't show as "good" stock.

Not that BB is a MasterClass on business management...

That means one of the managers set aside one (or more) for either someone or for an employee/themselves. My guess is someone ordered a few and returned the rest and the manager decided to set them aside so they couldn't be purchased.

Had this happen once when their system wouldn't allow an exchange for a damaged one since I got it 2 days early.

I would not have expected them to have them in-store or available at midnight on release day. Since I pre-ordered my copy in late-December, more than 3 months prior to release day, I did have the naive belief I would get the copy I ordered. Not looking for them to go under, but I am pretty furious that I do not even know for sure I am going to get it at all at this point, late or otherwise.

i received one of the 2 i ordered back in december today... it arrived in mint condition in a sturdy box with air pillows - it came from macon ga...

the other one i have a usps tracking number which shows it originated at that same location in ga but so far hasn't been handed over to usps

This is the thing I hate most about best buy. Their customer service is just plain awful. I had a problem a few years ago with something I bought from best buy on black friday a couple of years ago. I needed to do an exchange but they had none in store and they seem to be completely incapable of ordering replacements to the store or to my house. If its a steel book that is totally out of stock then that's one thing but generally they have stock somewhere just not in my area. The closest fix is for me to order another copy and return the defective good and hope they give me a refund for the second one because they are still incapable of doing an exchange. If they fix their supply problem then I could end up with 2 copies of an item which I payed nearly 3 times as much for.

Its a mess and a gamble anytime you have an issue with best buy trying to fix it and also fixing it risks you getting banned because it can turn a single exchange into 2 or 3 returns.

Mine is stuck in Macon, GA also. As are many people on Twitter, Reddit, etc. Seems like a widespread issue that I'm surprised isn't getting more attention.

Some guy on Reddit stated that he called support and they refunded him because they couldn't fulfill the order. Very strange considering someone here was able to get his order fulfilled last night by Best Buy.

I also read somewhere else that someone had their order cancelled but they didn't say whether it was automatically done by BB without speaking to them or not. It's also the reason why I didn't accept a refund when BB CS offered it to me, since I didn't want them to use that as grounds to cancel my order.

I do agree it sucks for those that pre-ordered and haven't gotten theirs yet. 1000% I even feel super bad for the guy who got his mangled and Best Buy couldn't have the sense to set aside some inventory for damaged ones like Disney does with their rewards (and they're "free"!).

My comment was more for those who don't pre-order and somehow expect there to be copies at midnight or for store pickup or even in store, despite the pandemic changing how things used to be (store pick up/inventory and supply issues). I mean a simple reading of the forums could tell you that not pre-ordering is kind of foolish now. I do understand some circumstances don't allow for pre-orders but like at least set aside some in case they open up again (I swear it feels like this was made available no less than 10 times). I only made my pre-order when it went up at first because I knew the $30 price would go up later, so I can't really say I listened to my own advice straight, but I definitely will going forward. I pre-ordered The Batman last night, not knowing the pre-orders were sold out but had opened again.

I guess it's a mix of popularity of a title + supply issues or underordering on the studio's part, and how some studios overorder certain titles and people get confident about / overestimate availability on the release date. Kind of how everyone is angry that Wonder Woman 1984 and Eternals are still on shelves, despite those being ordered by two completely different studios (and not being very succesful among fans/collectors- even if Eternals was a great movie in the end).
