I believe the Insider has said that one of the remaining 50s titles is a western (unless that was the one dropped). That would leave only one other standalone 50s title to be announced.

I'm really excited about UNGUARDED MOMENT and RAW WIND IN EDEN.

I think there was a DVD previously of UNGUARDED MOMENT, but the image was very soft, and the colors were badly faded. I look forward to this film receiving a new 2K scan. It does have a great ending.

I haven't seen RAW WIND IN EDEN, but with Rosanna "HELEN OF TROY" Podesta in the supporting cast, I'll blind-buy it.

The Swimmer is an ass-kicker of a film. That ending gets me very single time. It's a shame it's so little seen.

Yes, there's one western.

The standalone release are from 1939, 1942, 1945, 1953, 1957 and 1966. The rest are part of the 6 upcoming noir sets.

If there's a standalone non-western left, I'm guessing it's "Istanbul" from 1957, an excellent Technicolor adventure with Errol Flynn, Cornell Borchers and Nat King Cole. As an added plus, the beautiful song "When I Fall in Love" figures prominently on the soundtrack. The movie has noirish elements but the Insider's noted that Kino won't be including any color films in their noir sets. So I'm hoping this one gets the solo release it deserves.

If I'm not mistaken, I think the Insider indicated that the remaining releases are all Universal rather than Paramount titles. So my guess for the standalone western would be the westernish "Mississippi Gambler" from 1953 with Tyrone Power and Piper Laurie. It was a major box office hit for Universal in its day. And I think Power's star presence alone is enough to justify it as a solid choice for solo release.

And with the announcement that most of the remaining 1950s titles will wind up in film noir boxed sets, my hopes for THE CONQUEROR seem to be dashed.

I wonder if David Del Valle might contribute an audio commentary track for either THE UNGUARDED MOMENT or RAW WIND IN EDEN? I think that UNGUARDED MOMENT, in particular, might well appeal to his sensibilities.

Going over the known information of the deal again, it seems due to deductions and previous clues, two more films have been almost all but confirmed to be in the deal:

Love Letters (1945), directed by William Dieterle and starring Joseph Cotten and Jennifer Jones (who was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for this film). This is the only remaining film for director William Dieterle (who was confirmed to have at least 1 film in the deal) not ruled out – This Love Of Ours (1945) is ruled out (no Claude Rains in the deal) and The Searching Wind (1946) is ruled out (no more 1946 films in the deal)).

The Tattered Dress (1957), directed by Jack Arnold and starring Jeff Chandler, Jeanne Crain, Jack Carson, Gail Russell, and Elaine Stewart. This is the only remaining film for Gail Russell, who was confirmed to have at least 1 film in the deal not ruled out (the only other option left for Russell was Air Cadet (1951), which was just ruled out as it was revealed there are no more 1951 films in the deal).

Looking at additional information, it would appear that 1 of either I Stole A Million (1939) (starring George Raft and Claire Trevor) or Lucky Jordan (1942) (starring Alan Ladd and Helen Walker) is in the deal (or potentially both - there's nothing that says both cannot be in the deal), as there is at least 1 film directed by Frank Tuttle in the deal, which has not been revealed as of yet.

Love Letters is pratically a certainty as Mr. Insider also confirmed at an early stage, that there was a Joseph Cotten starring title among the films in the deal.

And I strongly suspect Lucky Jordan is the 1942 film, as when China was announced, Mr. Insider said there was one more Alan Ladd title in the deal.

The 1948 title may be A Woman’s vengeance, as for 1948 noirs, I can only think of this or The Saxon Charm (that I would love to own on Blu).

Actually, the title in question is Since You Went Away. While it's not in the WSL list, it's a Selznick film so it might as well be. I don't expect it to be in the next sale, but I might be willing to include it in a future sale order at the regular 40% discount. Given Kino's shipping charges for a single disc the net cost for me would be about the same as ordering it alone from Kino. I've also considered placing another order in this sale that would meet the minimum shipping threshold but I've already gone well over budget for this sale.

Alternatively, I could pick it up from Amazon or eBay, but all things being equal, I'd rather give my business to Kino.

I hope you're right! I mentioned The Tattered Dress a couple of pages back as a film I really want to see released, by Kino and on blu-ray. To my knowledge, it's never been released on disc in any format. It seems to have a bit of a cult following, and I must admit I'm among its many fans. It may not have the most plausible cinematic depiction of courtroom proceedings and legal maneuvering, but the set-up is quite dramatic and the entire film is quite stylish, an interesting time capsule of America in 1957. What I remember most about it is the beautiful black and white CinemaScope photography, which I thought was quite dazzling. And the cast is quite interesting; Chandler and Carson have meaty roles even if Jeanne Crain and Gail Russell aren't given enough to do. Fingers crossed that it shows up in one of the Film Noir boxsets!

That's my hope too, but there are two other plausible possibilities for 1953, if indeed the western is from this year (as appears to be the case):

The Lone Hand
The Great Sioux Uprising

There's no Raoul Walsh films in the deal, so The Lawless Breed is out. No Douglas Sirk either, so Take Me To Town is out. And wasn't it said there was only one Audie Murphy film in the deal?

Rawhead Rex steel is totally the fault of the Insider; even though I already have the older slipcover edition, he reminded me it's a new encode. (Of course I forgot a 4K was coming until I looked up the disc number in the database. Well, only $8 and I can put the 4K in it.)

My first order was on 3/24 and shipped on 3/25 and I got it on 3/29! (Behind the spoiler tag.)

[Show spoiler]

I guess I’m placing order #4 tonight or tomorrow, but do you know or anyone if Eastern Promises is still shipping out with the slip? Hate to be that guy, but I’ve already spent a lot of money (happily) and would be nice to know. I’m going back for the Forbidden Fruits and possibly this 4K!

Maybe the Audie Murphy title is a noir one: World in my corner (1956)

As Mr. Insider stated, there are 2 1956 titles in this deal, both noirs.

Per my account, only 3 titles apply:

- World in my corner
- Behind the high wall
- Edge of Hell

So there are great chances that one of the the 1956 titles is the Audy Murphy starrer.

Well we've already had To Hell and Back. I'm pretty sure it was said after that there were no other Murphy titles in the deal.

I'm not certain if it's ruled out or not, but War Arrow also sounds like it could be another western possibility from 1953 (although I feel The Mississippi Gambler is more likely). Slightly unrelated, but looking at the remaining 1950s titles, for the 1 non-noir/non-western of the bunch (16 noirs plus 1 western for the total of 18), the only remaining previously released 1950s film that isn't a noir/western is the 1957 CinemaScope remake of My Man Godfrey with June Allyson, David Niven, Martha Hyer, Jessie Royce Landis, and Eva Gabor. I’m not certain if this would be it for the 1957 solo film or not, as I’m not seeing too many other viable options for a non-noir/western slot in the previously unreleased films (Joe Butterfly would seemingly be out since there’s seemingly no more Murphy films, unless KL doesn’t want to count Mister Cory or Istanbul as noirs).
