Kino Insider

I'm curious - are there any genres that are, as a class, poor sellers? Ones that you are unlikely to choose any titles for?

Musicals? Westerns? RomCom? Detective? etc.?

I thought the 1950s one was released by Shout as a multi-pack, but I can't find it anywhere. The 1960s one was released by MGM MOD.

No, one's a western and the other a comedy.

You said Airport was unavailable to you, right? I want that one on 4K but Shout might do a Blu-ray Shout Select edition, not a 4K, and Arrow wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.

Regular dramas and comedies don't sell well on Blu-ray.

The Airport movies were licensed to another label.

Unless the Kino Insider has just given us another of their famous 'lies', it appears The Alamo can't be part of this deal, since it was given a proper pressed DVD release by MGM.

Damn. Well, I was really hoping we would get it this time around.

We once again asked for The Alamo, but it wasn't available, I wouldn't be surprised if it got released by MGM through WB. They have a new HD master done from the 35mm interpositive, I doubt they'll ever do a full restoration of the Roadshow 65mm edition, it'll be too expensive.

I've lied once this time around and promise not to do it again.

@ KL Insider

Thanks for the answer. At least there is one more noir. I hope it is one off my list.

This is totally unrelated to any deal - but has Kino ever considered, or would consider, doing Alfred Hitchcock Presents? As it has a ton of episodes, it would be a weighty undertaking, but we never even got the complete series released in the US even on DVD.

We've asked them for Alfred Hitchcock Presents and The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, but they were not interested in Licensing the shows. A bunch of episodes from AHP Seasons 6&7 are not legally cleared for home video release in the U.S. The U.S. DVD release only includes seasons 1 to 5.

I'm not going to openly speculate on the nature of this lie for fear of it being immediately shot down. It's a real long shot, but if it concerns a particular film that gets requested a fair bit around these parts, it's easily your best lie yet.

Hmm.... I wonder if it's the TV movie or maybe a Cannon title.

Thanks this is what others have said - that they would probably only release it in-house in the US. The recent Australian megaset DVD release is looking more enticing every day. Season 6 actually did get a US MOD release through Amazon but it is very expensive now. Have read that the Hour episodes also have clearance issues, I almost never see them in reruns anymore.

That's surprising. Also unfortunate given those are my favorite genres.

They used to rerun the hour episodes all the time on STARZ Mystery back in 2011-2012.

Well in the case of The Babysitter, it would involve 2 lies: firstly, saying The Babysitter remained unavailable due to clearance issues, and secondly, saying the 80s TV movie was previously released on DVD. So I don't think it can be that.

If it's a certain 80's film that a few of us have been asking for, then I hope that's the lie. I wouldn't mind the lie being about a certain 70's film, but I think that one wouldn't get people as excited as the 80's film would.

I think we can safely bet it's an 80s Cannon film.
