Exactly. He wasn't the producer on this movie. Wrong movie.

Is this movie any good? It's nice to see it drop under $30?

I'm miffed that I already ordered this thru walmart with paypal. There's no option to cancel when ordering with paypal apparently ... I'll just eat the $2-3 (for shipping whereas amazon is free) rather than calling them.

The critics gave it very good reviews. I haven't seen it.

It's good, but it's not a riot. It's very slowpaced, intentionally, and it's much more about love/life than comedy. I'd rank it more like a dramedy than anything. But yeah, it is good. Just probably not bluray material.

unfortunaly that is the new disney retail price point along with race to witch mountain which has been documented on these forums as being the priciest standard blu movies (those 2) so thats why this is posted as a hot deal at 26 because of the fact it has been seen anywhere from 31-33 dollars so a five dollar savings is actually a pretty good deal....and btw not everything posted in this section of the forums is a "hot deal" sometimes theres just some nice info and prices on certain things which can be very helpful to people like this particular thread for those interested in certain movies and items....not everything has to be like omg 20 dollars off act now....i appreciate any kind of info from certain places even if it is bad it helps me narrow down where im gonna buy from....anyway thx for the info op

This movie is fantastic. I will own it regardless of price. It's not hilarious like Superbad though it has several funny moments. It's more of comedy drama that is really well-written and acted (hence the amazing overall score it received at rottentomatoes.com). I think most people who are disappointed with it went in expecting Superbad because that's how the trailer foolishly made it out to be. It's excellent on its own merit, demonstrating that Mottola is a talented writer/director that we will hopefully see much more from in the future.

It's for $26 right now in amazon (check the latest deals on this site). If anyone is interested, Race to Witch Mountain is also for $28. Who knows for how long....

Ok, so I have to write this down since its really been bugging me since watching Adventureland two days ago.

The film is disappointing on all levels. The main character James Brennan (Jesse Eisenberg) plays a less convincing and extremely awkward version of Michael Cera, and comes across as immature and unnatural. The character is supposedly a recent college grad heading to Columbia for graduate studies, but he operates at the Junior High Level when it comes to interacting with people.

The biggest problem I have with the film is that it tries to establish multiple themes, but never accomplishes any. The main "love triangle" theme never really matures as film time doesn't progress enough to establish any of the relationships as serious enough to care about. There is the "rescue theme" with James trying to rescue Em from her parents, but there is really never enough established to rescue her from. There is the "broken friendship" which may have been established if the college friend didn't disappear out of the story minus 30 seconds in the beginning and end.

I could go on and on, but its a bore. Nothing about this film works. Its a huge mess with a bunch of characters you won't care about doing stuff that doesn't progress the story in one way or the other. I can't even explain why half the characters exist except to fill time. Bill Hader plays the only redeeming part in the movie. Congrats to him for being the only one who made the right choice when offered this film.

The Blu-ray presentation is a failure as well. Grain is there (woot!) but the blacks are crushed, badly. A lot of this film takes place at night, and the scenes become a mess if too much shadow creeps into the shot. Audio is pretty good, but you won't find anything spectacular about it.

Unless you've seen this film and enjoyed it, avoid it. Greg Mottola may have directed Superbad as well, but you won't find any of the things you liked from that film in Adventureland.

I feel better now.

Sorry Josh,

I have to disagree with you. The blacks are nice and deep. Shadow creeps in shots because most of the time, they are driving in the car at night and during night time scenes, they are in at an amusement park where there is a lot of lighting and thus the shadows but by no means is it bad nor a mess.

There is a good amount of grain in the film. And as for audio, this is a dialogue-driven film but the film is mainly going to hit home for those who grew up in the 80's. 80's music and the replaying of "Amadeus" (which was overplayed even on the radio) just made me smile. But there are scenes such as 42 minutes into the film of the fireworks that sound nice but for the most part, for a film such as "Adventureland", audio is satisfactory.

Wrong. High school grad.

That usually happens when you dont hang out with people and prefer to stay alone, as this character did.

That was hardly one of the main themes. In fact, it was only relevant to see into Ryan Reynolds character, and Kristens character.

Again, not a central theme. He did not try to "rescue her" at all. It was there for the development of Kristen.

Also, that was there to explain why he went to work where he did. nothing to do with the friendship.

In your opinion. Take Ryan Reynolds character for example. His scenes showed how his character just wanted to be young again, even though he eventually lost his love for the things he does. He constantly feels how he missed out due to his home life, and thus he sleeps with younger teen age women to lose the feeling of responsibility he has.

And Superbad sucked.

Adventureland is NOT a comedy. Not even a dramadey. it's a drama with black comedy mixed in. so a bladramedy.

Wrong. He graduated from college. With a literature degree, if I remember correctly. Which is why he got the job at Adventureland, to pay for grad school.

Might pick it up depending on PQ / AQ / Extras.
Well I dont know how much you want to rely on it but IGN gave it a 4 out of 10 on video and called the transfer "terrible" And "Throughout the film there is an absurd amount of grain and static that makes every frame look almost as if it is sparkling."
http://bluray.ign.com/articles/101/1015651p1.html
I really liked this movie too but I will wait till a price drop to pick it up....

There is a lot of grain in this film but not sure if it was intentionally done to give it an aged look (since the film takes place in the 80's), I still have to listen to the commentary but not sure if its addressed but this is where the viewers can debate the keep the grain, don't keep the grain, use a little DNR, no DNR, etc.
