Since Diamond Wizard and Treasure of the Four Crowns are confirmed upcoming releases, the remaining MGM-owned titles are Bwana Devil (potentially now licensed by Kino), Southwest Passage, Top Banana (left eye mostly lost except for a partial 3D trailer), and Emmanuelle IV.
Paramount remaining: Money from Home (not available to license until ~2025-27 because of Olive's flat Blu-ray), Flight to Tangier (difficulty funding restoration of 3-Stip Technicolor elements, 35mm 3D print not accessible), The Man Who Wasn't There Universal remaining: The Glass Web (has 3D DCP, "Temptation" music rights issue), Hawaiian Nights (short film, music rights issue), Carnival in April (short film, music rights issue), Nat King Cole with Russ Morgan and His Orchestra (short film, music rights issue) Last edited by BleedOrange11; 04-16-2022 at 06:57 AM. |

I'm not sure that Paramount still holds the license for Hondo since their Blu-ray was released back in 2012. Batjac Productions owns the copyright for Hondo. Cat-Women of the Moon and Hannah Lee are public domain.

Paramount had a backlash after they released HUGO on 3-D Blu-ray. The high parallax value wreaked havoc on ill-equipped 3-D displays at the time and many consumers thought the discs were defective. HONDO, like all Golden Age titles, is a very deep 3-D movie and Paramount felt the same backlash would occur so passed on it. It would have been the first vintage 3-D release on Blu-ray. |

This isn't a 3D film but we've worked REALLY hard on restoring this one and are very proud of the end result.
If you are an Abbott and Costello fan, don't hesitate to pre-order. This limited edition will sell out! https://www.classicflix.com/blog/202...tion-this-july ![]() |

I just barely got into I, THE JURY at the TCM Film Festival two nights ago. At first, they only let in people with festival badges (the cheapest of which was $850). I was third in the standby line, and they only let three of us in for $20 each.
My seat was in the third row, more than 60 degrees off to the side. I would've preferred a centered thornbush to this seat, but standby-ers can't be choosers. It was at least charming to be in a sold out 3D theater with a receptive audience, rare as they are these days. The 3D was impeccable, though very restrained, even moreso than Hitchcock's Dial M For Murder. There's some fantastic pop-out in the opening murder, then a gun barrel in a stereograph slide that a femme fatale shows to Detective Hammer. It's a very appropriate stereo window break for such a flirty scene, and it got a huge laugh out of the audience. But that's truly it for popouts. The rest of the movie has strong depth, as befitting the Golden Age, with fantastic framing and a lot of diagonal planes that stretch into the image. The restoration looked fine. Image was very stable. There was one shot where the focus was soft in the left eye, but that's probably unfixable. I did notice frequent ghosting, but I'm pretty sure that was due to my torturous viewing angle. The movie itself is a very competent noir with great lighting and a spitfire hero. The dialogue still has spark to it and most of its jokes land, even 70 years after release. I had too much trouble negotiating my viewing angle to follow most of the plot, but what snippets I caught were cogent. If I, THE JURY doesn't make it to 3D Blu-ray, hopefully the distributor has enough sense to schedule more screenings. I heard this was the 2nd best attended screening at the TCM Festival. |

Some friends of mine were there (at TCM Fest). They're very knowledgeable about stereoscopy. In their words, the image was clean, not too grainy, and the left and right image panels matched well for density. But... There were a lot of vertical alignment errors, with quite a number of shots exhibiting vertical rotational error. From the description, it would seem in these cases the stereo pairs were more and more "out of true" toward the left ("west") side of the screen. My one friend, in particular, made it clear he found the image watchable, but then again he trucks with 3-D practically every day, both professionally and as a hobby. His eyes are supple enough to handle even the poorest stereo. But he definitely feels that sensitive people might experience eyestrain from watching this present iteration of I the Jury. This is really one of the better 3-D films of the era. It is elevated considerably by the involvement of chiaroscuro maestro John Alton as cinematographer, now acting (by virtue of stereo) not merely as a painter of light but as a sculptor of light. From what I heard about the screening, I think it's fair to say this film deserves a heck of a lot better treatment than it's received so far. Like I said, I DESPERATELY want this out on 3D blu ray... and I'm aware of which folks deserve thanks if/when it happens... but I wonder if a quality-check may be in order.... ? If the 3DFA didn't perform the restoration, you can bet there is some stereo anomaly that could have been fixed but wasn't. We'll just have to hope that Kino Lorber is able to acquire the home distribution license.

[QUOTE=osmos512;20051662]I just barely got into I, THE JURY at the TCM Film Festival two nights ago.
Thanks for this and glad you got in. Did Eddie Muller say anything about the 3D? I looked at UCLA Film and Television Archive's Twitter/Facebook and on both it says: Screening at #TCMFF: “I, the Jury” (1953) in 3D (!), lensed by celebrated noir cinematographer John Alton. New restoration from the Archive! Also on loan: “Force of Evil” (1948) and “Return of the Secaucus Seven” (1980). Last edited by robtadrian; 04-25-2022 at 06:14 PM. |

[quote=robtadrian;20052408]I only got into the auditorium in time to hear Muller finish his introduction with “Enjoy I, THE JURY in 3D!” Which was met with rapturous applause.

As is the case with most classic 3D on blu ray... None of this happens were it not for Bob (and team).
