I think I even like Redbox more.
I use it periodically, mainly for movies I missed in theaters I don't want to wait for streaming on. But avoid their streaming service like the plague. Easily the worst streaming picture quality I've ever seen. I will never use it again.

Yeah.... mine is at the nearest grocery store.

I only use them now and then. They have some great deals on used discs but it's kind of a drag they come in the same cases as the rentals with no cover art and obviously no digital copy.

The best way to use Redbox is to do so when you are making that trip for other more important reasons, in which case adding the fuel cost to the rental price would not really apply as you had to make the trip, anyway.

The nearest Redbox to me is about 7 miles away, but it is inside a Walmart which I visit often for routine supplies. If I wanted to rent a movie, I would only do so on one of my regularly planned trips.

In the days of LD I would drive ≈ 10 miles during lunch hour to rent or return a LD title. Then some local places close to home started renting Beta and VHS tapes so I used to patronize them. They faded when Blockbuster and Hollywood Video moved into the area.

Then in 1997 Hollywood and Kroger grocery started renting the new fangled DVD so they became my goto for disc rental. Kroger closed the rental a few years later. It took Blockbuster quite a while to add DVD rental. About 2004-5 I was tired of going to the rental store so I signed up for Netflix disc by mail and been there ever since except for a 2 year stint with Blockbuster by mail.

For me, disc rental is very similar to disc purchase, pick the titles of interest, put in queue and a short time later they are in my mail box.

My sister still uses Netflix's disc by mail, but only for DVD. I can't convince her to pay the minimal extra $ to get blu-rays. She'll splurge on many other things, but she draws the line here.

I had a local LD rental shop within city limits in those days.

I have at least 6 Redbox kiosks around me, so they come in handy for rentals and especially for used 4K disc purchases.

SoCal has pretty much everything conveniently located. I miss living there...sometimes.

When I see a complete and utter lie I am going to call it. There is nothing correct about what was stated.

At my previous address video rental, Walmart, grocery, fuel, drug, etc. were ≤ 1.5 miles away. Now we are out in the sticks and most things are 10 or more miles away but we have great views.

I got to vacation in your general region when I was a teenager and I remember the scenery being stunning. You live in a wonderful place where evenings are perfect for watching movies while the daytime is ideal for experiencing natural splendor.

Got the Scream 2 movie set on UHD in the mail today.

What fun. Came with 4K iTunes of both movies also. (Paramount so iTunes or Vudu)

Put in the wrong disc ... ended up rewatching the new one.

Split

I'm probably going to watch Hellboy 2 tonight.

Really like this one, it has one of the better sound tracks. The under the bridge scenes are a blast. Have fun

If the Redbox is 9 miles away then you would have to travel a distance of 36 miles.

Do you regularly plan to go to Walmart two days in a row?

Heaven forbid! Once a week is bad enough. Is 2 days all that Redbox gives you?

Still, I do have to go into town two or three times a week, especially now that I am a medical guinea pig. Ducking into Walmart just to return a disc wouldn't be that terrible.
