When we informed you on the upcoming Blu-ray release of the long-awaited 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' only as part of a so-called trilogy, we also remarked it was coming out separately in the UK. Now further details have surfaced, and not only will the disc be reportedly region-free, it will also come in an attractive steelbook.

Special features include:
  • Unleashing the Dragon: The Making of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
  • A Conversation with Michelle Yeoh

Amazon has it listed as well, with a cover. So I'm guessing it is, yes sir.

My only concern is that HMV also has this listed, but the picture looks like an amaray case to me. It is cheap though.

Thumbs up

Cool! I'll preorder it with the Highlander SB since it comes out about the same time.

Yes, but this steelbook is made from the actual swords that were used in the movie

Not really, but I have to justify it somehow

Hey,

I know that the photo of the steelbook is not necessarily the actual steelbook, but if you look at it closely, it looks like it might be the same "stick-on" cover as it is looking like Final Fantasy might be, and Transporter Trilogy is.

Might explain the price

Just a heads up

I dunno, I'm not too sure. Take a closer look:

See how the front cover and the spine art take up ALL the space on the SteelBook?

Whereas if you looked at the same part on a Transporter Trilogy SteelBook, you'd see that it is not the case and that the sticker is kind of excentered:

I hope you are right Kynch and thanks for the magnified photos.

I can see the difference in the two, but it is the slver that is suspect for me. Just looks like there is nothing on it which is unlike most steels.

cheers

Gosh, I hope this does not become a trend. I too find this release somewhat suspect.

The conspiracy continues

But I am feeling a bit sorry if I am guilty of causing a stir. I just feel that it is better that I share what I feel is a "defect" rather than have fellow collectors shell out the extra $$$ and be disappointed with what they are getting.

It is bad enough that we have to guess if we are buying a real steelbook (like with the amazon.de metalpak releases being incorrectly labelled as steelbook). Now even with a real steelbook, you have to find out if the coverart is stickered on or printed.

You should not feel guilty at all as you brought forward something very important to us collectors.

I would not it a defect however, I would call it being cheap on the producers part as I bet they are just geting the blanks from the factory and the "stickers" from a print shop with the combination being much cheaper for them than the silkscreened steelbooks we all know and love.

Thanks my friend
crashkelly

I don't know if I can trust any artwork on a newly released steelbook. I've seen many releases have artwork that has silver showing like that. It is just a mock up. I'd rather wait for it to be seen by collector's to confirm it's release as an Original SteelBook vs. the new Stickered SteelBook.

I'll be upset a bit if they don't use any new artwork on it, and I'll be a little bummed also if they don't put artwork on it inside. If it comes out with stickered artwork, I'll be f'kn furious. I might, and that is a BIG might, still get it, but I'll have to think about it awhile to see if I want to add it to my collection.
