Just watched a trailer for The Coca Cola Kid, looks like a really good one! Though I do wonder what Coke thought of it at the time...

Per IMDB:
The film was produced without the knowledge or consent of the international offices of the Coca-Cola Company. However, since both the company and its product were depicted so favorably in the film (as well as the film being free advertising), they took no legal action against the parties involved.

It'd be great if the footage could be found of the film's infamous Cannes press conference where Greta Scacchi was very scathing about her dislike of Eric Roberts and his very hands on approach to their sex scene. Which Roberts, who, IIRC, was sitting next to her really wasn't expecting.

"The Coca-Cola Kid" is another really interesting, fairly obscure film FCE is breathing new life into. This label really kicks ass.

I haven't thought about THE COCA COLA KID since I watched it with my family as a kid in the 80s - I recall it being good, so I had to grab it today.

She also talks about this in the interview included in the Umbrella blu-ray. She's very forthcoming of her dislike of Roberts and his antics. It's refreshing, honest and insightful and goes beyond the usual pleasantries or "we all got along" nonsense. Also, I can't remember if it was this interview or another one, where she talks about the sexism she suffered in the beginning of her career and how every film always demanded a nude scene from her.

Thank you very much for rescuing The Coca-Cola Kid from obscurity! I had given up all hope of this getting released on blu-ray.

Can you tell us who you licensed it from? MGM? I ask because Janson Media uploaded this to Amazon Prime a few years ago and it looked like they just used the old Vestron Video VHS. I had my doubts they even had the rights to the movie and were just hoping the rights owners wouldn't notice.

If it wasn't for the VS partner label releases, I'd hardly buy from VS. And since the VS thread is a trolling, sh*t-posting hellscape at times, I don't bother posting there often either. It's filled with complaints about the partner label releases I'm interested in. I've bought every FCE release so far.

Wonderful film. He was a truly distinct and unclassifiable filmmaker. Was a tenured professor at Harvard for many years, too

Awkward Cannes press conferences that have been preserved for posterity are always a treat. Pedro Almodovar’s for Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down is a true endurance test

I'd love Montenegro too. I think the Fox Lorber DVD released in the late 90s was the last time it was released on home video.

Atlantic Releasing originally released it in the U.S. but I think their rights expired a while ago because the Fox Lorber DVD didn't appear to be licensed from MGM who own the Atlantic Releasing library.

Also, since I'm a Susan Anspach/Olivia d'Abo completist, I'd also like to see Into The Fire (1987), another movie that has been forgotten by most people (some would argue justifiably so ).

We licensed this Greta Scacchi interview from Umbrella (that appeared on their DVD) and it's on our Blu-ray.

We licensed it from MGM. I believe they, in turn, have it on license from the world rights owner. That copyright holder's legal entity is listed in our packaging.

That Janson Media stream is--I'm guessing--not licensed.

Another terrific acquisition from the deep vaults of MGM. The Coca Cola Kid had a wide theatrical release at the time and had a decent life on cable and video, but isn't talked about much anymore. Which are some of the best titles out there. Great slip art, too!

Another film set in Australia I would like to see on Blu someday, and is also with MGM, is the 1987 cult obscurity "Welcome to Woop Woop". I think it went straight to VHS in the US, but it's the follow-up film from the director of "Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert". Starring a very good looking Jonathan Schaech in his prime, in various states of undress, if that's your thing. MGM eventually put out a bare-bones scope-MOD DVD-R, but it could really use an upgrade.

It is the worst. Pages and pages of nothing.

Looking forward to this and a few other partner label releases.

This is a great choice. It's full of dryly absurd touches and is difficult to classify ... comedy? Romance? Mystery? Drama? It has some of all, but expect any of the usual tropes and you'll be disappointed (or delighted) to have your expectations upended, tweaked, and subverted. Eric Roberts gives a performance that could justifiably be called "eccentric" on several levels ... for one thing, I've lived in the Atlanta area all my life, and I have never heard anyone with an accent like the one he uses for this film (and I'm aware he's from the area also). Anyone looking for something out the ordinary should not be disappointed.

Fun City, you've done it again!
