No, I haven't seen Notorious on disc. I saw it a long while ago. I need to remedy that. I've seen Rebecca, though, which looks damn good.

This makes me so happy. I can't wait to own the rest of the Popeye shorts on Blu. While I await them eagerly, I hope they take the time to do them right.

The fact that finishing what they started (Popeye and Tex) doesn't give me much hope. If it even comes out, it'll be another half-finished abandoned project.

I won't even rule out shoddy restoration work. If WAC did it before (Tex #2) they'll do it again.
You’re like the guy who says the weather man always gets it wrong when he’s wrong once every six months. Except with WAC, it’s much less frequent than that.

The way the next cartoon set was described makes me believe its Happy Harmonies, or any sort of Harman-Ising stuff from the MGM cartoons. What George means probably means like "Popeye and Tex Avery" is that they were not available on disc previously (besides those laserdisc copies with haphazard amounts of noise removal). These discs are the most expensive WAC will do, because of the amount of materials needed to be pulled out, and (in the case of MGM where negs for all cartoons produced before MAGICAL MAESTRO are long gone) sometimes multiple copies over multiple archives. If they can't give a certain release date as of yet, this is why

Really craving a re-watch of The Mosquito Coast...but to keep the excitement and build up going, I'm holding out that Warner will finally put out a blu-ray this year...

There's a phrase "one bitten, twice shy".

And its easy for you guys to throw shade. You've never had any of your precious live-action movies mangled.

If that set comes out and is remastered, great. If not, don't say I didn't tell you so.

Here's the thing. Nobody is asking for your repeated unsolicited negativity and assumptions such as "If it even comes out, it'll be another half-finished abandoned project."

In addition, some Forum Rules:
  • If your only purpose on this forum is to bring negativity to the discussions or question Blu-ray as a format, then you are not welcome.
  • Don't threadcrap. In other words don't go into a thread about golfing and post "golf sucks" etc. It's unconstructive and it insults people who like golf.
  • If you can't contribute anything positive to the thread don't respond at all.

I actually find it amusing how he's distinguishing himself from us "live-action" people. As if a person couldn't be a fan or collector of both.

Well, I'm just glad the line is continuing period and that WB is also releasing classic titles outside of WAC on 4K. This gives me hope that the Hitcher will have a staked release that could possibly be in stores?

Either way, it sounds like we are in store for a few more months of only 2-3 titles, but lets see if 2023 we will get more titles per month.

I'll just say one more thing before dropping it.

what I meant, is that if a live-action release, like a Technicolor musical, had been as badly botched as Tex Avery 2 had been, there wouldn't be all these snarky quips at my expense. You'd be upset, too. But none of you have ever had to deal with anything like that with a WAC live-action release, so its easier for you to crow about their track record.

I think the problem is that you say the same thing pretty much every month. Not only that, but the wording you use, "mangled" "half-finished" "badly botched" are so negative that it really is a head-scratcher that you're still pining for new titles every month. If I hated their past animation efforts as much as you seem to, I certainly wouldn't be the most vocal person each month wanting more of them. I get that you're a fan of classic animation, and that you're disappointed with both their output and quality, but you've said as much many many times before already.

This would be huge and a day one purchase for me. Another dream release would be the Fleischer/Famous Studios Superman cartoons.

I don't hate all their animation release. I thought the three Popeye discs, the first Tex Avery disc, Jonny Quest and The Jetsons were all top-notch, worthy releases. I bought them all and enjoyed them immensely. But Tex #2 was such a loogie in the face that it spoiled everything.

No one would keep quiet if a live-action film had those kinds of problems. With a live-action release, you can be absolutely certain that its going to be up to their high standards. With animation, it's now a crapshoot.

Agree about The Crowd and Greed.

As far as I know, WAC has only ever released a single bad disk. I’m sorry that it happened to be animated, but I think it just as easily could have happened to a live action release. And I think if “live action” people were being this negative about that 1/300+ this far later, it would be unreasonable too.

There is no real reason to think that the next animated release will be bad. The events leading to the last one were nothing short of unprecedented.

Rest easy, and be glad that WAC releases animated shorts.

Imagine being a fan of early Disney animation. We all know that the Silly Symphonies and other theatrical shorts have a snowballs chance in hell over there.

To be fair, there have been a number of live action WAC discs that received lots of complaints, such as Drunken Master II and Horror of Dracula. Someone also previously brought up that an animated moth was mistakenly removed from their release of Ghost Ship.

There was a DVD with them, but it has some audio issues and just OK video in my opinion. I'd love a BD and 4K release, I'm sure they'd look fantastic
