Wow, that cover is certainly a choice...that's for sure. Here's hoping this one of SC's editions that is encoded well (The Howling, The Servant). Do we know if this is going to be one of their tat heavy editions? Are there specs avalaible yet?
I might just wait for Warner's edition. Hopefully a 4K of Silver Bullet isn't too far off.

Wow Stephen King’s Cat’s Eye gets a release that means we’ll never get the original theatrical versions of Star Wars now!!!

Atrocious cover (more like Pet Sematary), but I'm definitely in as long as they don't screw up the encode.

I love this, anthology horror in the old school style (I believe one of the Amicus producers was a producer on this). So chuffed this is getting (a very unexpected) 4K release!

Much, MUCH better cover than the previous DVD release. I love this film too. An ex-girlfriend introduced me to it on VHS in the pre-internet days when it was hard to track down.

Had a taped off the tv VHS recording of this that I used to watch regularly as a kid back in the day!

Hard not to like a film featuring a cat killing a midget troll by trapping it on a record player pawing the rpm switch and sending the crafty little bugger flying into an electrics panel! The whole scene accompanied by a sped up cover version (the vinyl in question) of The Police's 'every breath you take'!

Some bad news - it's Hiventy.

Quote:
Commissioned by STUDIOCANAL, the restoration was scanned in 4K – 16 bit by Picture Shop LLC – USA, using the original 35mm negative. The colour grading and restoration were completed by Hiventy Laboratory – France, who dedicated over 150 hours to manually cleaning and carefully removing sparkle, dirt and scratches.
And some good news - bonuses.

Maybe they also got something to drink from the "good encoding" well like some other encoding houses and this will be a good job.

Or did they do a disc just recently which was really bad?

Their restorations of Le Cercle Rouge and Basic Instinct are probably the most talked about with the color grades changed on both.

For the encoding on Hiventy and SC's Le Cercle Rouge, in comparison to Criterion's 4K, the bitrates are also lower and all over the place. Dips in bitrates can signify poor encoding, and that's what can introduce pixelation. High consistent bitrates usually won't do that.

Sleepwalkers would have made more sense, since it has a 30th anniversary this year.

Well that one is Columbia/Sony, so it actually doesn't make any sense.

So, Studiocanal shouldn't release Cat's Eye because Sony should be releasing Sleepwalkers.

Got ya.

Warner is never releasing this on 4K the way things are going with them. If you want it, import it.

Just seen the quick restoration trailer on social media, literally looks like it's been soaked in piss. Why do they do this?
