Can you believe that there is STILL technically an injunction against that one in the US?

Someone tried to book it for some screenings in L.A. just a few years ago (maybe 2017?), and someone at Universal made them cancel it.

Jeez, guys, that was a long time ago... and your own 'Jaws' franchise is long over.

I would imagine that some of the issues must have been settled because it's currently stream for FREE on Amazon Prime. Transfer is crap though.

I think that's been up for awhile now. Weird how Universal cares enough to block theater screenings and boutique releases of The Last Shark, but not streaming.

The funny thing is that more people can watch it on Amazon prime than any theater or Blu-ray, which has me believing that Universal doesn't care. The screenings were years ago, and there simply may be no HD master.

I just don't really see them as comparable businesses, even if they are, theoretically, competitors in the same line of business. VS handles so much of the process internally, or through a sister company, that they can probably make certain things work, financially or logistically, that other labels simply can't, because of all the 3rd parties that take their cuts out of the pie.

SF probably has a higher ceiling for how much they can invest in a license, but VS probably has a lower floor for how much it costs to produce and release any given title and still remain profitable, and fewer obstacles to cause delays in the release.

I find this a weird perspective. Your own personal perception of their release schedule has no bearing on what is actually coming out, or whether it's worth buying. Why would they create a schedule to please a single customer's desire for a regular schedule? Isn't it easier to just buy what you want from what is released rather than worrying about what you think might be coming? I'm not trying to be a smartass, I genuinely don't understand why you think their having a schedule that matches your idea of what a schedule should be is so important for the long term success of Scream Factory.

Do shout factory blu-rays always coming in viva elite cases? I was looking along my shelves and I see a some of my shout factory movies are in unbranded cases the plastic is a little darker and the top and bottom of the spine are more square. They were sold as brand new factory sealed but I am having some doubts now.

They come in a mix of different cases. I think the viva elites had some stocking issues around the start of the pandemic and stock of prints/reprints still have the other cases they used. Kino Lorber titles had the same thing happen.

Similarly, but not exactly the same since they use different cases, Arrow had to switch to an alternative case option during mid-2020 and you might still get releases that were stocked with their alternative cases.

Thanks, I notice all my Kino match apart from Link which I bought around the same time as the shout factory discs with the non elite cases all at the start of the pandemic. I feel a lot better about my purchases now.

No problem if you notice any inserts from SF or KL that are slightly blurry, there's probably no reason to doubt those either. I've received titles directly from both companies that have slightly blurry covers and disc artwork. The main indicator that you have a fake would be strange things when the disc starts, issues with the A/V, lacking the FBI warning or label logos, etc.

So a few things here... 1) My comments weren't intended to be a reflection on the titles themselves that have been released, merely the quantity of titles announced/released each month. That said... 2) I went back and looked and apparently my memory is rather poor as there really hasn't been that significant of a slow down compared to what I thought I remembered and so my feelings as expressed previously apparently were coming from a place of personal disappointment in what has been released as I can't think of any other reason why I would have thought that there were fewer releases than there actually were.

Ultimately what I was trying to say I think is that I miss the days of 6-8 announcements each month like we had for a while in 2016-2019 with the majority of them being new to Blu Ray releases. If you didn't like one month, the next month was likely to bring something you did like and so it didn't ever feel like you were waiting all that long for something that you, or me, or someone else was going to like/appreciate. The recent slate of 4k upgrades, while appreciated, just don't come close to that same sense of excitement as to what we once had and don't provide any clues in regards to what we can expect moving forward. For a long time this thread was buzzing with potential deals and titles that could be feasible and that made it fun to read through... as of late with more and more 4k upgrades of existing Scream Factory licenses, that sense of mystery really isn't there and so there hasn't been as much to discuss or get excited about.

For me, seeing Scream Factory bother to return to Comic-con would a) signal that they had a lot left that they planned to release and B) would hopefully provide a great stage to make another big announcement or two that could truly match/follow up on those Halloween and Friday sets.

I know last years big release was supposed to be the Halloween films in 4k, but having them all separate as they were really didn't seem all that earth shattering when Scream Factory already killed it with the 2014 deluxe boxset.

I know it's been mentioned many times over already that the big bulk of films have now already made their way to Blu ray and so those golden years are long gone in regards to sheer quantity of quality announcements, but Comic-Con would to me, provide at least some hope that there may still be some fun yet to be had with this label in much the same way everyone enjoys trying to guess whatever it is Vinegar Syndrome is going to be putting out each month, or that Arrow has hinted at in their cryptic notebook hints.

I do think the significant reduction of the IFC titles hurt Scream Factory as well. Those films accounted for at least 1-2 releases each month and as a big indie fan they helped bridge that gap during slower months.

With Alligator 1 and 2, The Ghost and the darkness, Night creatures and soon Fire in the sky, i'm pretty happy about the original content so far this year. That's on top of all the titles i'm not interested or the 4k upgrade (which i've been mostly digging). I don't know, I think Scream factory are doing pretty damn great so far this year.

But is that the uncut version as in the SF box or is it a 4k of the theatrical?

Big bulk in terms of what? Heavy hitters you mean?
Cause I'm an obscurity fan and in terms of what's been released on blu, its not even close to half probably of what was put on DVD and we're in year 16 of the format.
SF gonna have to dig deeper to come up with new to blu titles or we'll just keep seeing re-releases from them.
A label like VS known more for obscure stuff still has tons to mine.

Yeah, a recurring comment that comes up now and then is that the brunt of all the bigger known franchises have now had a release or are unaccessible due to companies being unwilling to license (Lionsgate). Scream factory has prioritized those bigger franchises over going deeper into the well. Like you, I'd like to see them continue to mine deeper for gold (Tobe Hoopers Night Terrors comes to mind as one such title) as opposed to focusing as much on the 4k re-releases but for the moment their focus seems to be more so on 4k releases (which admittedly will likely sell better than the stuff we'd like to see) and so when I'm talking about comic-con and future announcements slates I'm hoping to see more unknowns in the mix than we've seen lately.

Everything tends to run in cycles it seems and so the 4k upgrades won't last forever. Bottom line, I just want Scream factory to get back to monthly announcements of 6-8 titles if possible with at least half of those announcements being new to Bluray whenever possible.comic con would be a great place to resume that cycle.

yes it would be better to have new things, but the 4k upgrades and releases sell…. so they in turn will lead to more stuff later on.
