Well I've literally bought the storybook edits of Pino chio and Bambi cause I've sensed that a 4k release is never happening. Snow white definitely needs the 4k UHD treatment but then. Even the Prince of Egypt needs the 4k or rescan love and presented in the best possible way.

I have a bunch of stretches of the original (not talking the world-wide release after they sent it all through digital processing, the original film release) 35mm French release of TLM and I have to say the colors are INTENSE, a lot of the stuff looks beyond regular sRGB/REC709 color palette too. I mean the original film looks super brilliant and deeply saturated.

Got answer from Disney UK

(Disney UK)

8 Mar 2022, 08:49 GMT

Hi Sam,

Thanks for your patience so far.

We're sorry to hear your disc isn't up to scratch. We previously operated a disc replacement service at selected retailers in the UK when this was brought to our attention - around the same time as the US had their replacement service back in 2013.

We had a limited run of disc replacements which we no longer have left, and the issue was rectified at the time, with the correct fixed version included within the release of The Little Mermaid 4k Zaavi Exclusive Steelbook - released in 2021.

As your disc was purchased in CEX it may be the disc you have received is not the original one that was released. Regrettably we're unable to help with this, and will need to direct you back to the retailer who may be able to help you further.

With best wishes,

Disney Guest Services

I haven’t been too impressed by any of the CAPS films on UHD. B&TB in particular feels like quite a modest upgrade compared to the already-great Diamond edition.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s a slightly noticeable quality bump (color and highlight refinements mostly) but ultimately 2K CAPS movie is 2K CAPS movie.

Sadly, the cel-animated films that would benefit the most from a fresh 4K restoration are, barring a miracle, unlikely to ever receive a UHD release.

Oh god, I hesitate to say how much I’d be willing to fork over for a PROPER filmic-looking UHD presentation of Sleeping Beauty. The 2008 Platinum Edition master that we’ve been living for 14 years is so color-boosted, grain-wiped, and digitally repainted that it actually looks like CAPS. Unfortunately it’s not even close to being the worst offender among the DAC “restorations”.

Yep yepitty yep yep yep. All the CAPS-sourced UHDs I've seen are amongst the most minimal upgrades I've yet encountered on UHD. It's like because they were made for such a specific resolution and had such a specific amount of dynamic range and colour that there's just nothing else there.

Ah, right. Sorry Samuel, I misunderstood what you were talking about before, so it's not the Blu-ray disc being the Diamond Edition that's the main problem, it's that you've got a known faulty version in the UK steelbook set that you bought. But if you did indeed get it from CEX then someone may have actually swapped out the BD as Disnee are suggesting, so what copyright date does the Blu-ray's disc art have on it? Disnee are usually shit hot at pressing old BDs with new art and a later copyright date for their UK UHDs, so if your BD says © 2013 on it then someone's done a dirty.

Still, I was right about them politely telling you to **** off.

The 4K disc is fine. It's technically the ported Singnature collection. The 2K disc is the flawed Diamond edition with a 2021 pressing.

Damn, so it is a 2021 pressing. I’d send that picture (albeit without the bizarre filter) back to Disnee and see what they say, it’s supremely daft to newly repress a faulty disc when they’re insisting it’s not.

Ive sent the picture to them. The filter got applied as I was compressing the jpeg on my Samsung S21.

In all fairness, I can swap the 2K disc with the US Diamond Edition I have and sell the flawed disc in US Diamond Edition packaging. Its just I find this baffling that in 2021 they pressed the wrong edition rather than the rectified one.

Totally agreed re: the bafflement. I assume that they would've retired the master of the faulty disc, or any faulty disc, but clearly they just grabbed it from the shelf and sent it off to the replicators.

I've reomplained them on the chat. No one got back to me after 2 days. Hence I contacted Guest Services on chat and told them this needs to be looked into. I'll post this on the Zaavi 4k steelbook forum so that I could ask others who own the 4K UK edition to complain

Just realized The Little Matchgirl is missing. It was on the Diamond Edition. Some "ultimate collector's edition."

It's also available in this collection. (I got it from DMI, but I don't know if it's still available)

The Little Mermaid is a fictional animated movie that came out in the movie theaters November 17th 1989 (This is a animated musical for all ages). This movie is rated G. The Little Mermaid movie had a budget of $40 million dollars and box office sells of $235 million dollars. There is some nice bubble animation that Disney used in the movie (Disney had a business relationship with a Chinese based firm in Beijing called Pacific Rim Productions). Pacific Rim Productions did a very good job on the underwater bubble effects. The Little Mermaid was released on the Laserdisc format in the year 1990, and I got a chance to see it on Laserdisc back in the year 1990. The Little Mermaid came out on the 4K Blu-ray format on 2-26-2019 in native 4K with lossless 13.1 Dolby Atmos surround sound. Because of limitations in my equipment I watched it downscaled from 4K to 2K (1080P) and then downscaled from 13.1 Dolby Atmos to 7.1 Dolby TrueHD core audio. The Little Mermaid uses 56.6GB of space on the dual layer 66GB disc. The dual layer standard Blu-ray disc uses a total of 39.3GB of space out of 50GB. I was disappointed that Disney did not place the audio commentary track on the 4K Blu-ray disc and one has to insert the standard Blu-ray disc to listen to the audio commentary track. Also Disney should have used a 100GB disc instead of a 66GB disc, since a 100GB disc would have fit all the extra features on one disc. To watch the extra features one has to insert the standard Blu-ray disc.

I was not aware of the fact that on 9-19-2000 that Disney created The Little Mermaid II Return to the Sea sequel movie that was released on Blu-ray on 11-19-2013 as part of a combo pack with the original movie. Currently one cannot buy The Little Mermaid II Return to the Sea sequel movie by itself and is forced to buy the original movie with it, which creates a problem for those that already own the original movie on 4K Blu-ray. So hopefully The Little Mermaid II Return to the Sea sequel movie will be released as a single 4K Blu-ray or standard Blu-ray for movie collectors sometime in the future since I have never seen the sequel.

I disagree. On the 4K, Ariel's tail is green when it's supposed to be blue-green. They even created this specific blue-green hue just for her tail which was named after her. The Blu-Ray has that blue-green color. Her seashells are supposed to be a light purple like in the Blu-Ray, and not the bright purple they are now.

It's funny because when the Platinum DVD came out, it was criticized for changing up the colors. The Diamond Blu-Ray was praised for actually resembling the original movie and its original colors, grain and all, but then the 4K came out and reverted to a color scheme similar to the Platinum DVD.

It's such a disappointment that the original unaltered version from 1990 may never again see the light of day.

Just add it to the pile of Disney movies we'll never see the unaltered versions of ever again. (at least not officially and in HD)

Just a short list.
Fantasia
Make Mine Music
The original 3-Winnie the Pooh shorts
The Little Mermaid
Beauty and the Beast
Aladdin
The Lion King

Bonus: Films that have an alternate cuts we'll probably never get. (again, officially in HD)
Bedknobs and Broomsticks
The Black Cauldron
Muppet Christmas Carol
Pocahontas

It would also be nice to have the option to watch of all the Xerox animated films in HD with their full 4:3 aspect ratios. (101 Dalmatians is the only one so far)

A high school friend of mine pointed out that he saw the p*rn parody of this at a local Taboo and said that it was called The Little Sp*rmAid... just about everything I hear from this guy these days is against my free will
