As I said earlier, that's $2 less than what my son paid last night to watch Dr Strange with better food options. It was worth every penny.

Right on cue, my Leafs took their annual swan dive, so I'll be watching my rental again one more time before buying the UHD later this year.

Like many here still do, I used to blind buy everything and then call an audible at movietime. With shortened windows to home release, I find myself making easier, and sometimes surprise, decisions every week. Watching UNCHARTED on demand saved me from buying the physical release.

I can't honestly say that it's saving me money with a straight face, but I'm seeing more movies in my HT sooner than I ever could have hoped for in quality better than I bluray ....and I'm saving space in my son's closet where all my discs go after my son uses his super gaming rig to rip the disc at 1:1 quality.
You obviously have absolutely no patience if you think a $25 rental can save you money. In less than a month rentals for The Northman will be drastically cheaper (both physically and digitally).

If you read what I actually wrote, I explicitly say that my model is NOT saving me money...

As far as patience goes, we all prioritize things differently. I have the patience of Job for some things, and will pay a premium for others just to get it sooner.

I'm always making incremental changes to my home theater. When I was younger, I was an "early adopter" buying the latest gear as soon as it became available and paying a premium for it. I now almost exclusively buy my HT stuff second hand. This winter, I've bought a number of items from my felllow members over at AVSforums and had them shipped to my inlaws in Florida. They will be returning later this month and I'll get my new toys.

THE NORTHMAN was a title I was anxious to see. I was happy to pay the premium for it. When I was younger, I routinely went to the theater twice a week...now, for me, only Tarantino is worth paying the premium of my TIME and money to haul my cookies to the theater.

Yes some films have digital codes included.

As to your second question all I can say is many year ago my nephew redeemed a handful of mine before a trip to Africa (wanted them for the long plane ride and stuff) but that was long before Movie Anywhere so I have no idea if any or all of the newer codes will work or not.

Box Office: ‘Doctor Strange 2’ Snags $61M as ‘Firestarter’ Flames Out - Hollywood Reporter 5/15

'Doctor Strange 2' stays No. 1 as 'Firestarter' posted a meek $3.8 million box office debut after opening day and date on Peacock.

Quote:
Marvel Studios and Disney’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, finished its second weekend with nearly $700 million in global ticket sales.

Directed by Sam Raimi, the sequel grossed $61 million from 4,534 theaters for a 10-day domestic total of $291.9 million. The film dipped 67 percent from its $187 million opening; Disney had hoped for a decline more in the 65 percent range. (Spider-Man: No Way Home also fell 67 percent after its mega-$260 million debut.)

Doctor Strange’s weekend began with a Friday tally of $16.7 million.

Overseas, the superhero pic earned another $83.5 million for a foreign total of $396.2 million and global haul of $688.1 million.

Doctor Strange 2 easily stayed atop the chart as new offering Firestarter — based on the Stephen King tale — flamed out. The Universal and Blumhouse pic opened to $3.8 million from 3,412 cinemas.

Firestarter debuted day and date on Universal Pictures’ sister streaming service Peacock, making box office comparisons difficult. Poor reviews and a C- CinemaScore certainly didn’t help.

The reboot follows parents (Zac Efron, Sydney Lemon) who have been on the run for more than a decade trying to hide their daughter (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) from a shadowy federal agency who wants to use her firestarting abilities to their advantage.

Directed by Keith Thomas from a screenplay by Scott Teems, the film is produced by Jason Blum and Akiva Goldsman.

Firestarter placed No. 4 for the weekend behind Doctor Strange 2 and a pair of holdover family films, The Bad Guys and Sonic the Hedgehog 2.

Universal animated pic Bad Guys placed No. 2 domestically with $6.9 million for a North American total of $99.3 million and $165.6 million globally.

Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog 2 grossed $4.6 million for a domestic tally of $175.7 million.

A24’s indie hit Everything Everywhere All at Once rounded out the top five with $3.3 million from 1,726 cinemas for an impressive domestic total of $71.1 million.

Also at the specialty box office, Roadside Attractions opened the faith-based comedy Family Camp in 854 locations. The movie debuted to $1.4 million.

May 15, 8 a.m. Updated with revised numbers.
I was kinda wondering why Comcast (NBCUniversal) had to remake Firestarter? Guess they had too much money burning a hole in their pockets.

I know you guys love your Discs and have your own ideals for that Perfect HT, but Immersive Sound is not limited to Speakers you only have two ears. Here is a Sound Engineer talking about Dolby Atmos....Even on Headphones!

The thing is Alchav, anyone can claim they have HT if they are basing it on a tv on the wall with (at most) a sound bar and or the use of headphones.
That of course is fine if that’s what they are happy with but the thing is, you constantly try to make comparisons and make false claims while not being in the position to do so technically.

However clever headphone tech is, it can and will never replace a dedicated Atmos set up. It’s just not possible.

Also, the post that fly was referring to in his usual ‘drop a bomb post then disappear’ stealth manner, was mentioning the fact you enjoy travelling more than any other hobby. Again, people have that choice but this is a discussion about our hobby and one would think your presence here for many years suggests you are equally invested in films (if not the HT equipment to play them) so to play the ‘I’m not that invested’ card was a odd one for you to pull when cornered about your (imo) untruthful statements.

HT of the future could be glasses and headphones.

It's not the same but it kind of works well.

If anything, ... I'll have both. I already have both types because I have VR and good headphones. I still prefer the old school HT and I know some folks who still like it.

People can also post without insulting others.

Well, ... some people can anyway. I had to report your post.

Do you understand the whole no personal attacks thing?

There are rules here, it's not a free for all. Learn the rules and follow them to stay out of trouble.

One tip is if you address the topic and try not to speak about the people that solves it. Good luck.

Possibly. Not sure how it work for family viewing though. I think AR will be the more successful than VR (VR will still have a role to play)

AR will allow the user to stay present with others while enjoying a super sized screen. Of course, one possibility is that AR glasses become mainstream like smartphones, if all the family have a pair, not only could they enjoy personal large screen viewing, they could enjoy the living room experience with a fixed in place projection.

10-15 years away though!

Ha! Nothing wrong with a little dirty talk. I need to bring some lighting into the room since everything I am taking comes out weird. I will make it happen though. My Rangers somehow pulled it out last night, but now we have Carolina who owned us this year.

Your theater is so nice. I hope to have something like that eventually. Really nice work.

(PS .... mostly referring to the nice clean comfy space more than the components but those are all top shelf also.)

If you use headphones because of a hearing impairment why not just state it outright?

With birthdays many of us will degrade in some ways. Have stated before but will do again, I have tinnitus and it is very obnoxious at times. There was a time when my threshold (sensitivity) was more acute than the average and I could hear > 17 KHz. My threshold is not what it once was and on a good day I can hear > 10 KHz.

Some facsimile of immersive sound might be possible with headphones, but I absolutely hate wearing anything on my head. I have never gotten entirely used to wearing eyeglasses even after 20 years.

What I love most about this entire hobby of collecting movies, and the nice gear with which we enjoy them, is being able to share the movie viewing experience with my loved ones. I can't do that by wearing headphones, now can I? The only way for all of us to enjoy immersive sound is with a real surround sound set-up with all of the necessary speakers properly placed about the viewing room.

I still hope to add a subwoofer to my arrangement someday to make that aural experience even more immersive, but for now my 9 speakers do a pretty decent job. I very much doubt that any pair of headphones could provide more enjoyment than what I already have.

A personal note follows behind spoilers:

[Show spoiler]I am going into the hospital (again) for more tests on Wednesday and it should just be an overnight stay, but that all depends on what they find.

I am still having several problems that so far have defied any solution with the biggest one being my inability to gain any weight back. I lost 16.5% of my body weight when I was in the hospital last year and I have been unable to gain any of it back despite much effort.

I just wanted to explain my upcoming absence and please wish me luck if you are so inclined.
