Basically, whenever the intro is not using the optically overlaid subtitles it should revert to camera negative for those shots. This is what the streaming version does.

On the UHD, it loses the burnt in subtitles and keeps the opening sequence as one long lower quality dupe rather than have the quality going from good/poor/good/poor.

OG cinema audio in lossless, Dolby Vision, newer encode/mastering, BD100, lots of bonus features, and nice packaging. Same as the above 4K release, and further detailed in this post.

And hopefully, they'll get the audio right this time (Labyrinth's 2.0 is a downmix of the 5.1).

Dark Crystal especially has kind of a checkered audio history. The complete, unaltered original audio hasn't been heard since the Image laserdisc (even the later Disney LD was missing the opening music because of the removed Universal logo). Subsequent releases on DVD, BD, and UHD have all had varying degrees of errors and revisionism. A lot of chances for someone to pull the wrong file.

Question for those who don't have a Dolby Vision TV. Are these upgrades still worthwhile or should I just get/stick with the previous releases?

Just announced was the 30th anniversary steelbook with DV and original burnt in subtitles. Oct 4th
