Just ordered the 4 film Blu-ray boxset of House off eBay. A seller had some brand new and they're all region free. Been decades since I've seen the first one and I've never see the other 3.
Seller shipped it today. Can't wait to get it! Looks like a gorgeous set.

I've only ever seen the first two, and was completely unaware additional films existed until I saw that box set announcement.

House III was released in the U.S. under the title The Horror Show. It was only titled House III in other countries.

House IV was direct-to-video and, even then, I don't remember it playing on cable television very much.

in my personal opinion, as an avid fan of the first 2 movies, the second 2 are non-essential. the only saving grace for part 3 is that Lance Henriksen & Brion James are so damn cool.

i saw part 4 when i was pretty young (and wondered why i'd never heard of a part 3) and even then it was really really really bad

It's also notorious for William Katt returning as Roger Cobb, ostensibly, but he seems to be a completely different character, with a completely different family.

Whatever happened to that UHD set that was supposed to be released in Germany?

Aside from Wendt, who else from Cheers showed up?

I only care about the 1986 original.

I remember seeing House II: The Second Story when I was very young and being so disappointed that it was completely different from the first. It was a film made for kids and I wanted something suspenseful, scary, (and funny), like the original.

The third and fourth films are ridiculous. House III: The Horror Show isn't really a House film and you can feel that from watching it. House IV brings back William Katt as Roger Cobb only to
[Show spoiler]kill him off
. Plus, he's no longer married to Sandy (Kay Lenz) and has a new wife and a daughter instead of the son from the original. The house (owned by Roger's aunt Elizabeth) from the original is not used and the film feels so cheap. I remember there being a singing pizza in it - yes, you read that correctly.

I'd love the 1986 original to get a 4K UltraHD release, but I'd pass on the other three.

House II is one of the rare sequels that does enough of its own thing to stand apart from the original, while not suffering terribly by comparison. It's not as good as the first, but it's fun and creative, and you have to commend it for not merely being a retread. Like Alien and Aliens, the two complement one another nicely and have enough between them to scratch all kinds of itches.

I like it, as well. It might be worth noting that House II is, basically, a kids movie, complete with cute monster, or at least was marketed to teens. It was heavily advertised in issues of Marvel Comics that year (and Marvel also published an adaptation). It's not an adult horror movie like the first one.

Now that the four titles are available separately, I purchased the German 4K Mediabook (Cover B) of the 1986 original House at diabolik. $44.99 each (that's a lot better than $200 for the box set collection, especially when I don't want parts 2-4)

Will the House films likely get a UHD release outside of Germany?

I am going to wager yes, especially since Arrow botched the Blu-ray set. Would make easy upgrade cash if they did it right the 2nd time

Perhaps, but I get the sense there's no rush. Maybe after the HK/MA craze dies down and I don't see any signs of that. Last year's Hellraiser set gave me hope that they're not done with the Lakeshore catalog but that may have been a one-off to take advantage of the opportunity to release the fourth film.

BTW, I agree that the second film is a kid's movie. I don't know why they felt the need to change the formula for what was obviously a very successful original film. I've warmed up to Part 2 somewhat but I'm still not a big fan of it. They sort of went back to the roots for Part IV, which to me is an acknowledgment that the change in direction failed. Now if someone would make a proper House III

I've never understood why House III gets treated like the odd one out:

The main character being terrorized by a dark figure from his past? Check

A large chunk of the film takes place in a house? Check

Friends and family worried about the main character's sanity? Check

Producer: Sean S. Cunningham (House, House II and House IV)

Cinematographer: Mac Ahlberg (House, House II)

Composer: Harry Manfredini (House, House II and House IV)

^ You're joking, right? The film has literally NOTHING to do with the original film. The reasoning is explained somewhere in the extras but I don't recall exactly why they decided to call it House III. It's NOT a HOUSE film.
