I'm hoping for Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet at some point, either on BD or UHD. There's a 4K restoration of it that's just been sitting on a hard drive somewhere for the past 6 years or so, while the old, squished HD master continues to be distributed on disc in various countries (though not the US).

Hmm. That's interesting to say the least. I wonder if someone was still in negotiations for it when you asked for it initially. If so, could be Shout if they made another deal or Arrow with their rumored deal. Either way, would have been nice to have another John Frankenheimer film under Kino.

Are there any Euro Paramount titles that already have good HD scans that haven't been put on Blu-ray in the US? The ones that Kino wouldn't have to restore since it's already been done.

So the latest means we can scratch off the following from the UHD potentials as they had no USA blu ray releases:
Romeo and Juliette (1968) Match Point Double Jeopardy Red Eye I’m sure some others? |

No Escape/Escape from Absolom is with one of it's Australian or UK producers (who Umbrella licenced their BD from). TriBeCa Productions acquired US distribution rights to A Bronx Tale from Universal. They wanted a high asking price and a label (believed to be Criterion) supposedly met their ransom price and were working on a new restoration. Lightning Jack was produced by Village Roadshow (with VS releasing it in Australia, Savoy in the US, and Buena Vista overseas). US rights are now believed to be with Warner distributing for Village Roadshow (Warner are VS's main distribution and production partner). All the Rysher productions that Savoy distributed (which includes Three Wishes, Exit to Eden, White Man's Burden, ect.) are with Paramount (they own the Spelling Entertainment unit that purchased Rysher). I know for a fact Universal controls Steal Big, Steal Little and The Walking Dead (1996) as there were HD streams with a Focus Features logo attached. |

Kino has done really well by Fields, releasing all of what I would consider his essential films. The only one I thought strange to be left out was Poppy (1936). It’s not top shelf Fields, but it’s still has Fields playing one of his signature characters during his prime.

Paramount only had TV rights to Chikara (inherited from Viacom). It's probably with the producers no doubt.
Terror in the Wax Museum has some sort of film elements issues. The TV cut (currently streaming in HD at places like AV) seems to be the only surviving version as the elements to the theatrical cut are lost or were destroyed. |

Has Dragonslayer been ruled out as one of the 80s titles for any reason? That's one of my most desired Paramount flicks

The new 4K restoration of Monsieur Hire looks gorgeous, a new trailer just came out a few days ago. Can't wait for this to be announced by Cohen/Kino.

Dragonslayer is a title that makes sense for Kino to license since Paramount only has US rights (Disney has international rights), so Paramount may have less incentive to release it themselves. Paramount did end up releasing Popeye themselves despite similar circumstances, however, so who really knows. |
