Let's not write it off just yet, we can do that after the full release trailer.
Given the franchise's track record, why would anyone have faith something good is coming?

What this guy said.

Predator = Awesome
Predator 2 = Very good
Predators = Okay
The Predator = Trash

If I include AvP:

AvP = Good
AvPR = Trash

I always took the original as kind of a sly commentary on the whole action genre. Like here are these insanely musclebound guys packing the most sophisticated heavy artillery imaginable and they’re basically impotent in the face of a single enemy. In the end, you can win, just survive, and to do it, Arnold has to become a force as primal as the jungle.
The big reason their weapons weren't effective is because they couldn't see him with the camouflage on. So they tore up the forest shooting at nothing. If they could have seen their target, those weapons would have shredded the predator with all of those heavy weapons being fired. The fact he did get grazed by one shot showed his was vulnerable. It was his invisibility that was his greatest protection.

They were at a huge disadvantage because they were being taken by surprise by an an invisible enemy. If he didn't have his cloak, he would have been no match for all of them.

It's been a good while since I have watched the commentary track. Been a good while since I've watched the movie. Now might be a good time to fire up the 4K disc for a viewing before Prey is released.

Nah, he still would have been plenty. Laser targeting shoulder cannon, multiple vision modes, enhanced speed, strength, and agility. Dude's still taking a whole bunch of them out without his cloak.

Now had they also figured out sooner that they could cloak themselves from him, they might have been able to tip the scales a bit more in their favor.

If I were to nitpick about it, Arnie just got lucky, at no point did he have the upper hand. He got lucky twice, once with smashing the counterweight on the creature and then just getting out of the blast zone.

I mean, unless he purposely placed the counterweight to fall at that location, as a backup if the creature figured out the booby trap, as it eventually does in the film but I doubt it.

My problem has never been the movies as I've always enjoyed the action in most of them (The Predator aside and can look past some of the cringe acting in AVPR for the fights).. My gripe is they never spent time expanding Weyland yutani etc. same with aliens, much more interested in even attempting to tell a connected story than rinse repeat of new team vs. new predator/alien

It's still too damn bad we never got another Predator movie with Arnold in his prime. Such a missed opportunity.

I believe you will get the expanded Weyland Yutani with the Alien series.

Anyone else ever thought the Predator using a nuke after being defeated kind of goes against the honorable hunter schtick? You've lost fair and square but laugh because you're gonna kill your enemy anyway?

^ I never saw it as a final "F you" to an adversary; rather as a means of making sure no Pred tech is left behind for a prey species to reverse-engineer.

This would've been sick in movie form.

That would make sense given the storyline of The Predator.

And a big F-you, too.

I thought the predator's invisibility device/armor got ruined when he landed in the water.

The Predator's are sore losers I guess. Maybe that's why Danny Glover's character got a prize at the end of P2. He cut the Predator's arm off and stopped him from blowing up LA and then killed him hand to hand.

The story seems like it could be good. I'll give it a shot because Dan Trachtenberg is the director and also mainly because its going to premiere on hulu. With tickets being $20 now and Predator 4 being absolutely terrible, I'm not into the idea of paying another $20 to see this.

Wow, the amount of people who miss the point is extraordinary. "How will they fight predators without tech!?" The predators are game hunters. We know they've visited earth prior in the 19th century and presumably earlier. They'll adapt themselves or limit themselves to make it a challenge. Like how the one in the first film took its helmet off to go hand-to-hand.
