The fire at one of the major chip plants I believe necessitated the change. Yes some say that it’s a step down but good DACs today are the rule and not the exception. Finally unless one is using the analog RCA or XLR stereo outputs the analog section where the DACs are used is totally bypassed meaning if your just using HDMI then it has zero impact on the end user experience.

They tweaked the DACs as well as the audio board accordingly so if you're going to use it just via HDMI it wont matter at all. The UB820 isnt affected as it used a cheaper Burr-Brown based DAC layout (4x stereo DACs IIRC all PCM5101 based). The original 9000 used AKM DACs but because of the late 2020 fire Panny switched to ESS DACs instead.

If the unit is open there should be a square shaped hole that you slide a paper clip or another thin object into which should unlatch the unit and release the tray.

Had my 820 for about 2 years now. Watched probably all of 20 disc total and now im having a problem where the control panel keeps showing up on the screen in the right hand corner and will not go away without alot of fuss. Anyone had this issue? Whats the move? I didn't buy any extended warranties but this player shouldn't be crapping out already. I did get it to go away by doing a factory reset but it came right back. I then got it to go away by unplugging the machine. Not sure if it will come back next time I watch a disc but its a damn headache for sure. Thanks

I wasn't able to find it. I did take the top of the drive off and retrieve the disc. Can anyone highlight the manual release point on an image? I really don't want to pay for shipping to get this thing repaired if the belt has just slipped off or something I can easily fix.

I've had this player since the beginning of the year and probably played 40-50 discs, played flawlessly, not a single freeze/skip(knock knock) which is why i bought the player to replace my X700. Love the HDR optimizer it definitely improves the image compared to the Sony, and I like to use the Light environment setting on darker discs and it really helps with the overall brightness.
I do have the occasional audio drop after pausing and rewinding, I did a factory reset and it helped but it still has happened a couple times since but it's pretty rare so I can live with it. Very happy with this player! |

Movies like Thor: Ragnarok were better than the UHD as we got the IMAX scenes. Then Disney+ has stacks of DV movies that aren't available in DV UHD. National Treasure for example. I have a number of films sitting on the shelf in blu or UHD. I just looked them up in Just Watch and said play on TV. Result was quicker, more convenient and perfectly fine on quality. This was using the Sony A90J 83". OLED. Which is a stunner TV. Last edited by Badas; 05-23-2022 at 12:32 AM. |

Why would the brightness changing between shots be delayed by one second? Is this a disc issue? Player issue? TV issue?
Watch this clip I took of Vigilante 4K. Every time the shot changes there’s a one second delay and then a noticeable “click” where the brightness changes. https://i.imgur.com/jdaeaLZ.mp4 |

Both players are on firmware 1.69 and this is happening on both OLEDs.
The C7 has TPC turned off and it happens. The C1 has TPC turned on and it happens. I just checked the Vigilante 4K thread and it seems like a bunch of people had this issue with DV but not HDR. Last edited by RustinCohle; 05-23-2022 at 04:21 AM. |

![]() I don’t think this needs to be discussed more since the difference is massive and a fact. Streaming is more convenient; I give you that, but this is the only advantage. Unfortunately, most people don’t care about quality much, this is why DVD still exists in 2022. |

I'll take Blu-ray discs, especially well produced 4k Blu-ray discs, over streaming anyday. Then there is the audio... |
