MGM owns the copyright on the movie but sold the distribution rights. Even though they own the movie they can't distribute it themselves. United Artists sold tv rights for several films to ITV. Return of The Pink Panther was included as part of the deal in order to get the deal to go through. One big prestige title to get ITV to bite on the lesser titles.

I think some of the other titles in the deal were Raise The Titanic, Saturn 3, Capricorn One, Eagle Has Landed.

I know that's how it was back in the day. But the last DVD release was Universal and the Imprint release in Australia was licensed from Universal. The Shout Factory release did not have any ITV credit like they do for their releases of Raise the Titanic or Eagle Has Landed, it only has an MGM credit on the back cover and the disc art.

Congo is highly entertaining. A reissue could go one of several ways:

1) Paramount could re-release a standard edition of the film themselves with a new generic cover (what would be the point?), or
2) They could re-release the film as a Paramount Presents title on Blu-ray, or
3) Paramount could license the film to Shout Factory, who would likely recycle the same master, add a Collector's Edition banner, throw in some talking heads and call it a day, or
4) License the film to IMPRINT, who will release a nice slipbox but recycle the same dated master

Running theme throughout: No new scan but we'll gain some interviews, perhaps a comic book-y cover and pay through the nose.

Any guesses as to what label has the others? Maybe Shout still has them and plans to release them individually (hopefully after correcting the various issues plaguing the box set)?

I guess. I mean, who else could it be? I couldn't see Criterion releasing anything other than the first two films in the series. I would have thought that having released 3 films in the franchise, Kino would pounce on all the others as soon as they were available, so it would make sense that Shout would have renewed them and is planning something better for them.

ITV/ITC, Shout has most of their titles under license in the U.S.

My guess is the copyright was an error.

Tiana Alexandra (The Killer Elite) is Checkers Goldberg. She’s tough and she’s deadly. Like a one-woman strike force, she punches, kicks and shoots her way from the streets of San Francisco to the underbelly of South America in the sizzling, action-packed thrill-ride, Catch the Heat. Following a grisly trail of violence to Buenos Aires, Checkers masquerades as exotic dancer Cinderella Pu and discovers that kingpin Jason Hannibal—deviously played by screen great Rod Steiger (A Fistful of Dynamite)—is smuggling heroin out of the country by surgically implanting the contraband inside the bodies of unsuspecting young women. Pretending to submit to Hannibal’s gruesome operation, Checkers is suddenly plunged into the ultimate confrontation where only her wits and blazing martial arts savvy can save her. Co-starring David Dukes (Rawhead Rex), Professor Toru Tanaka (An Eye for an Eye, The Perfect Weapon) and Brian Thompson (Cobra), this explosive ’80s actioner features direction by Joel Silberg (Breakin’, Rappin’, Lambada) from a script by award-winning screenwriter Stirling Silliphant (In the Heat of the Night, Charly, The Towering Inferno).

This is BIG news. I promise you, this will be the best hidden gem a lot of you have never seen before. Tiana Alexandra is Bruce Lee's only (?) female disciple and kicks serious ass here.

I remember MisterLime saying MGM acquired back all home video rights to Return of The Pink Panther in 2015 (at least for the US only anyway). Was he wrong?

All I know is that the last home video label for that movie was Focus Features/Universal (but if they do still own it via ITV, that would explain why their logos on the Shout! DVD/Blu-ray).

A 'Hitchcock directed' blu would be a cop out that I would boycott anyway, alot of the best episodes are not necessarily ones he directed. We need the whole series. The problem - way too many episodes, a ton of which have clearance issues (this is why season 7 and the 3 seasons of Hour never got DVD releases in the US).
It's also the reason why the 80's series never got a home media release anywhere.

Is the 1940s releases exclusive to bluray or already released by Imprint label in Australia? @KLI

It's a blast. Hope it sells well once word gets out about it. Shame it isn't more well known already.

There's a few wild stunts that'll make you afraid for the stunt man, and some unbelievable dialog.

I'll be glad to retire the old DVD, which isn't terrible, but is full screen.

But I'm with you about Death Wish and The Warriors with 2 cuts.

Bringing Out the Dead is not on Blu-ray yet and see below Kino Lorber Insider quote.

Paramount is now restoring Is Paris Burning. Trust it will be the complete Roadshow version in stereo.
