since 4K is region free, I think that gives even less reason for Criterion to release their UHD version.

Which is completely silly logic. Is the Eureka release going to be on shelves at your local B&N? Just because a foreign label puts out a 4K release in no way means it's pointless for any domestic label to do the same. Based on your post history, I'm sure you'd be saying something completely different if it was Criterion that announced it first..

Ouch! No, there was no hidden agenda to my post. Yes, you are right - people are not going to B&N and finding Eureka. I was just making a statement that the US vs UK region issue is not in play here, as it is typically is. Geez.

Doesn't silliness rule in the forum? That's about as silly as not picking up a title because of those outlandish ratings logos on the cover.....

There are far dumber reasons. Pick a thread!

I'm sorry, but you have a history of taking shots at Criterion, even in cases where it's been pointed out to you that they had nothing to do with the issue. This feels like another snide kind of remark that I highly doubt you'd be saying in a Eureka thread if it was Criterion that announced a 4K set first. Even if you don't acknowledge your anti-Criterion bias, it's very clear from your own post history..

I have had it with Criterion. I really don't care if this is what they got or a result of their tweaking anymore. Over the last years I have been subjected to
  • Repulsive Covers
  • Compression issues
  • Poorly designed sets
  • Revisionist versions of films without original versions provided
  • Revisionist versions of films without even notifying consumers that it is a revised version
  • Extra dark grading
  • Major color shifts

From now on, I will only buy older releases from Criterion that have great PQ reviews. For newer releases, I will wait at least 1 year to see if any other company will release the film. At the end of the year, if nobody else has released it, and if the PQ reviews are Steller and the movie is still on my must-have list, then I might get it. Otherwise Criterion is off my list.

I am done with these yahoos.
And there are many more..

Yes, I have made it known that Criterion, imho, has greatly declined over the years and I no longer consider myself a "Fan' of the company. That does not mean I don't continue to buy Criterions, only that I am far more selective.
If only fan-boys can make any comment in this thread, I think that diminishes the value of the thread, imho.

Getting back to the topic at hand... I understand there was some color issues with Eureka's PS 1 and 2 BD. If Criterion fixes those and releases a UHD/BD combo set for all 3 films, with the correct color coding for 1 and 2, then I would definitely prefer to get the Criterion.

Starting watching The Offer TV show (which is pretty good) and there was a mention of the film Burn! which I'm hoping Criterion finally gets around to releasing. It seems like it's been a decade since we found out they had it. Need some more Brandon on Blu-ray.

Maybeeeee? However, it's been speculated way before that and I guess it was the Kino Lorber Insider who finally gave us the confirmation, or the user that was speculated to be the insider with the Michael Caine avatar. Can't remember.

Yeah that's why I deleted the post right after I made it (I'm too slow apparently lol). Kino confirmed it in 2020, but I'm pretty sure it's been rumored long before that.

Just picked up Blue Velvet. Worst packaging ever. Looks like it was ran over by a truck. Anyone out there do custom criterion covers?

Holy crap. I just followed Criterion on Twitter and now their posts are all I see now. Whoever is in charge of marketing there is earning their paycheck.

It's funny how out of all the Lynch films Criterion has released so far all of the cases are different sizes. How about picking one size and go with it?

Preach, every digipack being a different height and size is one of the, albeit minuet, small things Criterion does that annoys me.

Its on their "Most watched" section on Criterion Channel, I would imagine its been a really good seller for them on disc as well.
I'd say its more a matter of "when" than "if" if there is already an HDR grade ready and waiting.

I am not much of a martial arts film kind of guy but I did buy and enjoy the Criterion BD of the first two Police Story films. Are the other worth searching out?
