I didn't know the movie was opening today; thought it was tomorrow. Guess I better rewatch the original; haven't seen it in 30 years.

Dear God, I miss the '80s.
Me too.

Someone did broach that point, oddly enough: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...2&postcount=30

I didn’t get into the weeds about X-OCN vs XAVC at that time despite reading said info because that would’ve flown over the heads (see what I did there?) of 99.999% of people reading that ^ comment. Then again, so do most of my comments

Going to see this tonight, so excited! After so many CGI fests it will be nice to return to a blockbuster with mostly practical effects.

Also, why is this thread so low on the Movies sub forum? It has been getting rave reviews across the board and it seems like no one is talking about it. Maybe getting the poll up will help build some excitement?

Loved every minute of this, just how a reunion with an old friend should be.

For those who have seen it,
[Show spoiler] is one of the admirals named Warlock supposed to be the same Warlock from the original?

Amen! This film gave me the feeling I've been wanting a Star Wars film to give me since I left the theater after seeing Return of the Jedi when I was 8. Crazy there have been 8 Star Wars flicks since then and it took old Tom flying a jet to give me that feeling again. Well done! Great popcorn fluff!

Loved the initial exchange in the snow.

I get all the tech stuff, and IMAX branding, but simply don't care. I have the chance to see it in IMAX and I'm going to. 6K X-OCN in the cockpit cams would be a bit better, but I doubt anyone will notice with the work they did in post.

Does that bother you that much, or did it detract from your enjoyment of the movie? It's not like Star Wars was the most original thing ever. It's just a MacGuffin anyway.

Exactly. It's not what a movie is about, it's how it's about it.

I did think the same while watching. It was like TWO summer blockbusters for the price….well, let’s face it the price of 4 summer blockbusters. Still smiling today thinking about it.

I thought it was awesome! It gave me a Top Gun/Mission Impossible feel. The thanks to Val Kilmer was very classy too!

Default I'm willing to bet in the very opening scene

That is Tom Cruise's
[Show spoiler]personal hanger. Thats his P51 Mustang 100%. And I know he owns and flies a few different planes.

Need help settling a debate. I'm going to see this with a small group and we're debating between IMAX and RPX. None of us have ever seen anything in RPX. If you had to choose, which way would you go?

You will definitely want to see this in IMAX. The film features sequences where the screen opens up to fill the screen completely.

RPX is basically a bigger screen and better sound but not to the high standards of Dolby Cinema or IMAX.

I thought the same thing when they announced the mission. Although I had no issue with it because the flight footage was incredible.
I think with the film not
[Show spoiler]wanting to offend any country we get a special mission instead. You can even toss in a touch of Behind Enemy Lines. I also don't think we saw the face of one single person from the target side just like the first film.

I caught that last night early on while watching the movie. About halfway through the film, I realized that
[Show spoiler]Hangman was basically Han Solo and that he would save the day in the same way.
