He did the Dead Pool for similar reasons. Warner Bros financed his pet project Bird, so as a thank you he agreed to do another Dirty Harry movie. Bird was shot first but held back until the awards season in late 1988, the Dead Pool was shot in early '88 and released in the summer.
Not that anyone asked, but I've never thought much of Sudden Impact. However, The Dead Pool is fun. It's not a great Dirty Harry movie, but I find it super enjoyable and rewatchable.

I have a feeling Leviathan was a good seller for SF and it has been 1 of the most sought after OOP titles.
I own it and I think it's a great film, I can see anyone who missed the SF release picking this up plus most of us who already own it upgrading as Kino has the best price points for 4k and it will likely even be in an upcoming sale.

I hope someone else releases it, then. It’s a really great film that would shine on blu. Richard Dreyfus is great in it, as is Jack Warden. Of course, I’m a sucker for period coming-of-age films.

Watch "Sharky's Machine". You´re not going to repent it. Great Burt Reynolds film. One of the best films he ever made.

KLI... The comment about the 4K market being different than the blu-ray market is an interesting one. I believe comedies and animation tended to struggle more in the transition from DVD to blu-ray... But, what types of movies sell best in the 4K format? Is it horror? More niche titles?

It's even more limited, we've passed on UHD releases of no-brainer Blu-ray releases like Witness for the Prosecution, Mr. Majestyk, Planet of the Vampires, Electra Glide in Blue...

But that's just us, other companies may feel differently, StudioCanal released the Dr. Who films on UHD in Europe, but we've passed.

Coming August 16th!

Electra Glide in Blue (1973)
• Brand New 4K Master
• NEW Audio Commentary by Screenwriter Robert Boris, Moderated by Film Historian Alex Van Dyne (Manager of Eddie Brandt's Saturday Matinee)
• Audio Commentary with Composer/Producer/Director James William Guercio
• NEW Interview with Actor Mitchell Ryan
• NEW Interview with Screenwriter Robert Boris
• Introduction by James William Guercio
• Theatrical Trailer
• Reversible Art
• Limited Edition O-Card
• Optional English Subtitles

Color 114 Minutes 2.35:1 Rated PG
With its mesmerizing visuals, Easy Rider-style social commentary and electrifying rock soundtrack, Electra Glide in Blue is the quintessential ’70s cult classic. Robert Blake (Busting, TV’s Baretta) creates a vivid character of almost mythic proportions as a small motorcycle cop in Arizona who’s promoted for exposing a murder. Eventually his basic virility runs him afoul of the sheriff and he’s busted back down to his bike, the Harley-Davidson Electra Glide. With classic irony, he finally comes into deadly conflict with a group of hippies…the very people who most nearly reflect his own values. The brilliant cinematography of Conrad Hall (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid) and an uncompromising screenplay by Robert Boris (Steele Justice) highlight this stunning film debut for producer/director/composer James William Guerico. Featuring fine supporting turns by Billy “Green” Bush (The Organization), Mitchell Ryan (High Plains Drifter), Elisha Cook Jr. (I Wake Up Screaming) and Royal Dano (Spaced Invaders).

Mitchell Ryan passed away not that long ago.
Nice that you were able to get a new interview in the can with him before he left us.

A very underrated actor, I remembered him mostly for Dark Shadows, he had a movie in pre-production at the time of his death, impressive that some actors will literally work until their last day.

Can you elaborate on the color grading for this new release?
Who, or where was it preformed? Did they go off the earlier release, or use another source for reference?

I'm just curious if it will look significantly different from your original release, in terms other than (possibly) things like high frequency and edge detail, image stability/integrity, etc.

While Sudden Impact has Sondra Locke on a revenge rampage, The Dead Pool has this.

Game, set, match, The Dead Pool.

Think VS and/or FCE said there’s no rights issue or anything with Juggler, the guy just doesn’t want to license it. Sad!

The previous MGM master was used as source for color, we've heard about the horrible Italian "restoration".
