I disagree completely. I love the character of Sarah, and Lori Cardille is amazing in the role.
[Show spoiler]Her breakdown after she amputates her boyfriend's arm and she finally lets her guard down is heart-breaking and incredibly authentic.

So I recently modded my ps3 and I think it's basically region-free now??

What's the version of this movie to get? Just blu ray, don't need 4k though if it's a combo pack i'll take it. Don't need tons of bells and whistles, but would probably enjoy some behind-the-scenes stuff if it exists

Second Sight, without question. You unfortunately missed out on their immaculate LE set, but this version still has all three cuts.

I just couldn't care. She just didn't have any personality.... I want to be fair in that she isn't given a lot to work with. It's just that if you have a film with such a limited location the characters just have to really command attention.

The original film gets away with limited characters because of the claustrophobia aspect.

George loves to illustrate how humans can shoot themselves in the foot with selfishness in critical situations. It's demonstrated with Harry Cooper and Ben (to a lesser extent).

In Dawn, both Roger and Stephen are self destructive. Although both Roger and Stephen are more sympathetic characters than Harry Cooper. Both feel like they have good in them, but the dire nature of their situation and the character directions allows us to sympathize with them.

Roger is somewhat of a masculine kind of guy but with aconscience. These two things collide as he tries to convince himself that he is in control during the trucks scene, but deep down he is also starting to understand more and more the bleakness of their situation . He just can't understand how to proceed with dealing with the situation in which he has no control of.

He has seen one of his friends commit suicide, and saw another guy in his unit become a complete animal without a conscience get put out of his misery. It's easy to see how he losses his shit and becomes self destructive. It's relatable.

With Stephen... He is kind of a smarmy guy that spends the bulk of the movie trying to become self-sefficent in a survival kind of context. He is Trying to prove himself worthy. Since Roger is gone and Fran becomes more independent (which he struggles to accept) we see him go further and further to sort of show that he is in control.

He becomes more territorial and primitive against his own better judgement. He does things he wouldn't have done at the start of the film.

It's easy to see how it happened.

With Day, most of the characters are just dicks or just not interesting.IMO

I can actually pieces of me in all 4 main characters in Dawn.

Yes. I am the same. I can totally relate to all of them, because they feel real. They come off as real human beings. They are symaphatic, yet somewhat flawed. But I am totally buying their behavior and actions in a situation like this. They make mistakes, but I can see myself doing the exact same things, although I should know better and so should they. Their arcs are truly believable. That's one of the many reasons why I love the characters so much. I feel really connected to them, because I can see myself in them. At least partially.

Most people only really talk about the consumerism aspect of the film. Which is there, but I think it cheapens the movie to focus on that too much. It's not the main reason this is largely the most liked movie in the franchise. Or at least traditionally.

Too bad Romero lost ground on character development after this. It really hurt with Land as none of the characters stuck out in that film besides Dennis Hopper, but Dennis Hopper is always going to leave an impression.

Beware of bootlegs!!!! Probably uses the Second Sight restoration. They even copied the artwork from their novelization and made it look like a "collector's edition" from Shout Factory. Pathetic.

I willingly bought a bootleg of the AB Blu-ray for $10 with free shipping on facebooks market feature. Worked like a charm, still going to import the 4K from Second Sight when I can. I haven't looked in a couple of days, but it's been unavailable for import for a couple of weeks now.

I imported the Second Sight 4K a few months ago. It looks and sounds great, and was absolutely worth it. I wasn't going to buy a bootleg for an exorbitant amount.

I'm convinced Second Sight's release can't be topped. However, Dawn of the Dead is one of the greatest and most important movies of all time, it absolutely needs a US re-release asap!

Yeah, I agree. What the hell? Why is that not happening?

I can't imagine the release would lose money.

I mean... right?

I gave up waiting for a US release and ordered a copy of the Second Sight normal edition off Amazon for $35 shipped. Not a bad price, and now I can finally retire my Ultimate Edition DVD.

I'm wondering the same thing. I have the original US release I purchased back when it came out and went to play it today but am having read issues. I wonder if there's disc rot or something. I guess I'll be keeping an eye out for a cheap copy of the 4K disc.

This is the Amazon listing I got mine from. Still about $35 shipped for a copy, but no longer has Prime shipping so it'll take a bit longer to arrive.
