OK, this is my last post and then I will leave the thread for good. The copies I have of both the LOTR Trilogy and the Back To The Future Trilogy are my second copies. I have never been able to get the Extended LOTR discs to play correctly out of either set. My first set of BTTT had the second film lock up several times. I am not going for third copies.

I don't know if they want to listen or not. They're kind of acting stubborn. These particular discs have been known to also have more than their fair share of micro scratches, etc. that could affect playback Perhaps a wipe down from center out (always in a straight line) with a micro fiber cloth in case there is some residue from the disc plant still on them too. |

Stop feeding concern trolls. So tiring. I was completely right about that person Lol They claim it's just pragmatic reporting of a disc issue but they tag most posts in here with "guys im leaving the entire format over these few discs not playing"
![]() Come on. Called it. |

There are not any scratches and. I wiped them off with a micro cloth. I also took BTTF 2 and 3 and. Jaws to my neighbor's house and played. them on his new Panasonic. While they didn't pixelate on his player the all three froze in the same spots as they did on my Sony. Also,if I was going to troll a thread I wouldn't have picked one that hasn't been active in weeks. |

This is why I said earlier, that without seeing your discs for ourselves, we kind of have to take your word that they are spotless, so hardware seems to be the likely issue. |

Okay well stick to BDs then. If you’re going to be obstinate about it when people are trying to help you troubleshoot, I don’t think anybody really cares what you choose to do.

- Tenet (disc was stacked on top of the BD, came with scratches - skips and freezes in several places) - Gladiator (no scratches, maybe 1 or 2 tiny near microscopic marks) - Back to the Future - only on Part 2 in one scene - John Wick 2 (totally smooth and scratch free disc - froze in 1 scene) - Schindler's List Scratched discs that played fine: - The LOTR 4k set - Justice League Trilogy set - Psycho 4k in the Alfred Hitchcock 4k Vol 1 set - Most of the discs in the Columbia Classics Vol.2 set If you're worried about getting another defective replacement, you can try ordering the UK versions. These discs are made in different pressing plants around the EU. The US discs originating from Mexico seem to be problematic these days. I ended up re-ordering Tenet, Gladiator and Schindler's List from amazon.uk last month. Will see if these hold up over the next few years. |

So, I decided to upgrade from the 25th Anniversary set to the 35th Anniversary one. In the mean time I was looking back through Caps-a-holic and noticed some interesting compression. Here, on Doc's toolbelt...
https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=2&x...4&l=0&i=4&go=1 Is this set more aggressively compressed or am I mistaking this for film grain? |

Edit. Nm I read back and saw. I do know when the optical drive of the oppos starts going bad it affects specific discs for me and others which causes us to sound like raving lunatics because we are convinced it has to be the disc with that kind of pattern. In our cases replacing the optical drive made all those spefic discs playable again. Walk your discs into a Best Buy magnolia center and see if they'll let you test them out. The x700 isn't the greatest but I make sure to have spare units, rotate amongst each, play only SACD and UHDs on it (and play 1080p blu and DVDs on other players) to ensure some longevity. My oldest unit from 2018 still is fine. I just need to steer clear of titles pressed on BD-100s from Warner and Universal that come from the Mexico plants for now and import the UK variants. |
