Not sure if I like that Hard Rock Nightmare slipcover. It's "cool" in a weird way but at the same time looks like it won 2nd prize at a 3rd Grade Art Project

Well I think they were trying to go for a straight horror film but it feels like a comedy.

Watched Hard Rock Nightmare for the first time ever last night. It didn't disappoint and surprisingly, neither did the print. Picture quality was remarkably solid on this one and I was very pleasantly surprised by how nice it looked. The Audio is a bit off as I had to adjust the Receiver Preset to force Dolby Pro Logic II to play correctly, but sound quality was good and I would image that an incorrect flag was checked during the encoding process. I have an older Onkyo receiver that I usually run all 2 channel stereo tracks through on the THX Cinema setting which decodes the Pro Logic II codec and then applies additional equalization... long story short it's usually the best sounding option. On this release however using this option resulted in audio being sent to the front right and rear right speakers instead of the front left and right or center channel and so things were a bit off for a moment.

Overall I'd go so far as to say that technically speaking this is right up there with the best of Dark Force's offerings and is recommended to folks on the fence. The film was actually better than I thought it would be as well which was a bonus.

The special feature is.... "special". I won't say much more other than that I know that there were issues trying to get anything for this release and so I appreciate including what you did Dave.

I watched Hard Rock Nightmare as well and had a blast with it. It's like Rock 'n Roll Nightmare in a lot of ways, but far more competently made and a little more self-aware. One issue I had with the Dark Force release was these odd visual glitches that popped up a few times for a split second. Did you encounter anything like this?

Yeah I only saw one myself (the one you screen captured) but was also preoccupied and so I may have missed others. it occurs in a blink and you'll miss it fashion and so while disappointing I didn't bring it up as there is almost always some form or print wear or anomaly on most DF releases and so I just considered it par for the course.

I really didn't even notice it when I viewed my disc, so it must have literally been a split second encode anomaly.

Either way, thanks for including subtitles on this release! It really makes the difference for me, Demon Dave.

Thanks for the feedback AKNewbie. We were real happy with the way both those slips turned out. And we are seriously considering a new Dark Force Club, so we will see very shortly if that does pan out or not.

As long as members of the club get a decoder ring...

A club would make more sense if you have a steady stream of new releases every month. As it is, you only churn out one or two titles like every 3 months on average. I would seriously consider joining a club if there was a busier slate and you released more mainstream 80's and 90's horror movies, particularly slashers. I'm guessing slipcover production may hold back more releases because of cost - just a heads up: not everything needs a slipcover

Is it possible the Dark Forces are strong enough to break the stranglehold over the Crown International Pictures catalog and release Van Nuys Blvd?

Plenty of other fun movies in the catalog also like Malibu Beach, The Van (with America's sweetheart, Danny Devito), The Stepmother, The Young Graduates, The Teachers and some re-releases that people missed out on like My Tutor and The Beach Girls. Sounds like a great lineup for the drive-in series.

Supposedly Crown isn't licensing anything at the moment, as they look for a purchaser for their entire library.
