The one on streaming looks dim and depressing. I bet it never exceeds 150 nits as I couldn't spot any standout HDR moments or anything beyond standard dynamic range.
The one on streaming looks like Curse of the Black Pearl bad aside from DNR

I put the odds on this about the same as Albert Torena calling Vincent back.

The hilarious thing is that if it does turn out to be really real it's going to be absolutely DESTROYED by the reviewing cognoscenti and most UHD buyers who expect "pop" (ugh) from everything.

It is what it is - Mann having supervised the 4K transfer - but wow people are not going to be happy. I don't mind the new transfer but I sold the Blu of it due to some very weird issues with the image looking blocky at times, I don't know if that was compression or what but it was so distracting. If the UHD fixes that I'll be happy enough, but I'm not getting rid of the Warners Blu.

The same as the US one that was posted earlier?

I still have the Warners VC-1 disc as well. I know the guys who wrote VC-1 which was a great codec at the time and actually more efficient than h.264 in certain cases (FWIW, I wrote some of the optimizations for H.264 for a popular video app waaaay back then). Obviously, going with MPEG for the format as a whole was a no brainer but it was possible to make a decent looking VC-1 Blu.

That disc is supposedly from a vaulted positive that I would bet looks awfully close (as photochemically possible) to Mann's own answer print. It's kind of random what he decides to tinker with: 'Thief' no, but 'Heat' gets a pretty radical reworking. Shudder to think what would happen if he does 'Manhunter' and all those super optic whites are reduced to pale teals.

Isn't this the first Fox title getting a UHD in 2022? Hoping we at least get Home Alone 2 for the holidays too.

Noticed a listing on Amazon that's tied to the UPC posted at HDMovie Source. Anyone know if this listing is ancient, or did it recently surface?

https://www.amazon.com/Heat-Michael-...tv%2C74&sr=1-1

Edit: CamelCamelCamel doesn't have price history for it, so it looks to be newly added

The one that's streaming was supervised by Mann.

I feel like I write this every few months.

But I can't wait! Heat is a top 5 movie for me, and I personally don't think the streaming 4K version is bad at all. The use of HDR is just more subtle than other titles. I feel the same way about the HDR use for Goodfellas. A disc that I think looks great.

Just revisited few scenes. There is no High Dynamic Range. Even the city lights looks diffused and muted. It's not bad or unwatchable but it's going to piss off a lot of people. Definitely going to stir a lot of debate about creative intent.

They really just re-used the same art from the Premium Collection Steelbook:

The pre-order blipped in and out of existence. Said $34.95 for a moment.

I wouldn't have minded if they kept the artwork for the Director's Definitive Edition. I always thought it worked pretty well for the movie and it wasn't just floating heads or bad photoshop.

I don't have anything against the artwork for the potential 4K release. It's fine, but could be a bit more exciting.
