I will bet 10000 bucks that this will have low Dialogue volume and you guys will have to turn up the DB on your receivers like a Disney Atmos movie.

I love Mann as a filmmaker, I really do, but I wonder sometimes if he doesn't make these alterations just to screw with us. Maybe to see who'll notice or just to have a laugh (and I say this knowing full well how uncharacteristic it would be, but some of these alterations... like the framerate changes in Thief... Come on!)

What's annoying is that he and Universal never put the director's cut of Blackhat on Blu-ray - just showed it on FX occasionally. That's such a better version of that movie than the theatrical.

I'm still going to stick with being cautious. I haven't seen anything newer than the 2009 transfer.

Couple corrections here.

1. The film is owned by Legendary
2. Mann was still taking notes at the DC screening

Honestly my guess is after the debacle of that movie, Legendary wiped their hands clean and wanted nothing to do with the effort to re-release it on home video. In a pod Bilge Ebiri talked about how during the retrospective Mann said “it’s in Legendary’s hands” around issues like a DC Blu or an official OST release. Pretty sure he owns the negatives on almost all of his films.

The new remaster was typically yellowed and tealed, but not to as strong degree as Thief. And like we've seen on other UHDs, that yellow and teal will probably be toned down in 4K since HDR doesn't compress the colors the way an SDR conversion does. So I'm optimistic.
