The magic scenes of older Viy are revealed to be trickery, false tales, dreams and hallucinations in new Viy. Except for a throwaway scene at the end, Viy 3D is more of a mystery movie rather than a supernatural tale.

They're not trickery. That's a conclusion that the main character comes to in error at the end of the film, attempting to make sense of it all. The final scene with the monk is there to show that he was wrong and that it really happened.
