Maybe the lesson is to pre-order direct from Kino or pre-order ASAP once those listings go up. I pre-ordered from Bullmoose and received this e-mail the Friday before street date. I don't recall if Bullmoose got any with slips or if I had just ordered too late. With that one I even cancelled it from an earlier pre-order and re-ordered it to "consolidate" it with some other stuff and apply Bullmoose points. That was probably a mistake. But, it was possible to pre-order that one and not get a slip. They went fast.

This is an update regarding your purchase of: The Good The Bad & The Ugly/Eastwood/Van Cleef@4KUHD@R
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello,

It has come to our attention that Kino Lorber has greatly underestimated demand for the high-definition re-issue of THE GOOD THE BAD & THE UGLY/EASTWOOD/VAN CLEEF@4KUHD@R out on 4/27. We were told today by our distributor that not all orders will ship on time for street date. While understandably disappointing we are encouraged that the studio has rushed production and shipping to get caught up. We will your order active and it will be filled as soon as possible. You can cancel at any time if need be. Please let us know if you have any questions.

I mean, that's just not true. Like it or not, limited edition slipcovers often help move copies. Simple as that.

All you need to do is hang around these forums for 1 minute to see proof of that. Slightly ashamed to admit it, the addiction started for me a few months ago, but there's a lot of Vinegar Syndrome (and their partners) that I've taken chances on that I would not have bought because of their really nice, high-quality slipcovers. It also protects my purchase because I know I could always sell it back for full value if I didn't like it. No offense to Kino, but OCN's slips are the only ones I really care about though, they're definitely a level above.

I would never stop myself from buying a movie because of no slip, that's crazy to me and I just see them as an extra/cool incentive, but it's funny that you commented this when someone a few posts above you literally said they would not buy TGTBTU 4K because of the slip not being available, disproving your comment.

(On one hand, I hate myself for writing this and becoming a slip defender, but on the other hand anything that helps sell movies is okay in my book, an overall win for the industry and collectors, and it's undeniable at this point that slips have an effect.)

Sadly I have to agree with this. There are users here who won't even watch a movie, but will buy it to either resell later, or never get to it, but initially buy it because of the slips. Slipcovers move a lot of copies that usually wouldn't move. Simple as that.

KLI has said that from the company's perspective it doesn't affect overall sales, just the number of pre-orders.

Received my copy of Film Noir Dark Side of Cinema VII today. 2 of the discs are in the standard blue cases, and 1 is in a clear case without the blu-ray logo at the top. What's up with the mismatch?

The big question is how would they even know who didn't buy a product because it was missing a slip cover?

True. Even then, pre-orders are higher-priced so it'd be good for them either way. More revenue from slipped copies. At the end of the day, anything that helps labels (while also being cool for collectors) is good.

The regular 4k of TGTBTU isn't rare..it's easily obtainable for regular prices. I would've bought it right afterwards if I was able to pick up the slip.
So, you will buy a movie if it never came with a slip, but you won't buy one without a slip if it once came with one?

As someone that bought the 4K from Amazon less than 2 months after it came out and didn't have the slip, I'm glad I was able to get one of these slips.

Watching the debate of slip vs. slipless is interesting. In my case, the reason that KL's slip covers are important to me is because the title on the spine is in color and in the original typeface or logo style of the poster. As we all know, spines on standard KL titles without slips have the same style of typeface and white letters on all of them. For me the slip gives it artistic/visual/shelf value, and it makes the case stand on its own as opposed to having the same look as Kino's previously released GBU.

Around 800 titles.
And that's why I didn't spend $20 on a slipcover.

But hey - glad a bunch of you that wanted them, got em. Dreams come true!

This is a unique value of Kino's slips that I agree with. I don't really care about slips, but the original typeface on the slips is more aesthetically pleasing than the Helvetica (?) they use on the actual spine.

It's not about the slipcovers imo. It's the collector's need to have a gimmicky exclusive. If slips disappeared, the industry would just need a replacement gimmick incentive. Like, make a limited number of them glow in the dark or some shit. Collectors will double dip on a release if it has a gimmick. They won't for something that feels standard. Collectors will buy a vinyl record if it's a cool exclusive color and pass on a black vinyl record.

Full disclosure : I'm not judging, I do like the look of a slipcover, I enjoy having special releases, and laugh at myself a bit here But I can absolutely live with my Vinegar Syndrome's "Ebola Syndromes" not having a slip.

That's true. I'm not a fan of the standard font. I have the same issue with the Third Window Films logo. Not a fan.
