Yes, you are wrong. While all (or certainly most of) the flying sequences were done for real, aside from TC flying his own plane at the end, everything else was done a 2-seater with a Navy pilot doing the actual flying.

Do you really think the Navy would allow a bunch of actors with only a few months flight training actually fly their jets?

Okay, I saw this on Tuesday and I was very pleasantly surprised. For context, I like Tony Scott's original. I think it's pretty good. Having said that, I do think Maverick is the superior film. And from a technical standpoint, I think it definitely is.

It uses a similar formula to the original and has a structure that somewhat parallels it while also adding to it. But it's like Maverick is an amplified version of the original, one on steroids, especially in its second half. It is tense and stellar.

The aerial action sequences throughout, especially in the third act of Maverick, are what really solidifies it for me and puts this sequel over the original film.

Kosinski did a great job with this one. After seeing it, I really wish Disney would get him back on board to do Tron 3 with Tron: Legacy's cast.

Anyways, Maverick will be a Day 1 purchase on 4K for me. And props to Tom Cruise for what he's done for the action genre. He and Keanu Reeves are really going above and beyond these days.

Yep, the 4K disc was my first thought when I left the cinema. Can’t wait!

The guy has real leading man chops. I could see him fitting into the MCU as one of their heroes easily. I was really struck by him when i saw him in Hidden Figures as John Glenn, he was so good and effortlessly charming in that.
Been a huge fan of Glen since Scream Queens when he stole that whole show as Chad Radwell. I definitely think his part in this will get him some leading man roles and I’ll be shocked if Marvel doesn’t have their eye on him for something, he’s definitely got that Chris Evans appeal.

Of course, I do. We are talking about Tom Cruise here. That man is allowed to do things that no man should be allowed to do. I believe he flew planes in the original one as well. At least that is what I remember hearing on the BTS stuff on the blu-ray that came with the 4K UHD I have at home. I'll have to check again to be sure. But it's Tom Cruise, so I don't doubt it. That man is insane.

I made a custom cover for Top Gun Maverick like the original Top Gun VHS. It's also posted in the Custom Cover Art thread.

Enjoy for anyone that wants it!

That's hysterical. No matter how crazy Tom Cruise may be, he generally seems like a nice guy. He may not actually be, but he sure seems it.

My new favourite movie of the year. Displacing my previous movie of the year, The Batman.

Great movie. Will make tons of money. Leave it there don't turn it into a franchise.

I very rarely ever see a movie a second time in the theatre, I usually just wait for the disc.

But I'm highly considering going to see this a second time. It was one of the best theatre experiences I've had in a long time.

Also, this movie pandered to middle-aged and old conservative white men so much.

The old white guy can still do the job better than the young pilots (the female, and other minority pilots).

The old white guy can neglect the women who loved him many times, and at the end he not only gets her back, she comes chasing and driving up to him in a classic car.

The old white guy saves the day for everyone.

It's so cringey.
