As I never bought that steelbook release, I'm unsure if that was a new disc encode with a new scan or just the original Blu-ray repackaged, but I recall Sir Ridley stating at some point during the press of 'Exodus: Gods and Kings' that he was going to be overseeing a new release of Kingdom.

Universal are another studio which happen to be sitting on a gold mine of recently (and not so recently) remastered 4K titles which they have yet to release. Their Universal Monsters have been done for a while as well as their entire Hitchcock collection. They're slowly releasing them now, thankfully. I heard rumblings of Spielberg's Duel being prepped for 4K as far back as 2017 and that also looks to be on the cards for this year.

Around the time when he released Gods of Egypt, Alex Proyas mentioned he was going in to do some work on a new release for The Crow. He was asked about Dark City and talked about it as a movie needing a definitive release which was also on the cards. Fast forward 6 years and we're still on radio silence regarding both.

Anyway, like Geoff stated - a finished 4K master - recent or not, is never a guarantee for a physical 4K release.

Anyway, not to derail the thread too much, but the Heat 4K master has been done for a long time.
Since KINGDOM OF HEAVEN was finished as a 2K DI, I sincerely doubt they did a "fresh new scan" back in 2015, since that would entail redoing the entire film's post-production from scratch.

Yeah, that disc was just a fresh encode of the movie, not a “remaster” and certainly not a 4K rebuild. Lots of misinformation clanging around in this here thread.

My apologies, I didn't mean to suggest that they had redone the entire post production effects, etc on the movie. Merely that they would have upscaled it to 4K. I could be wrong, but I don't think 4K discs had even been released in 2015 so expecting a 10th Anniversary release for Kingdom of Heaven on 4K back then was obviously never going to be a thing. There is however, a fresher master than what was originally released in the early days of Blu-ray awaiting a 4K release, and that makes me sad as it is a criminally under-rated movie and the fact that it has yet to see a 4K release is a damn shame. That's all

Yeah i Agree, The 4k Stream on Apple TV is poor, HDR like you said is almost non-existent, Needs Work no doubt.
Ive played the Fox Remastered Bluray Upscaled and selected picture mode “HDR Effect” light or Medium on my C8 Oled, It looks Superb.
The 4K Disc Needs a fresh HDR Grade and would look Superb, Question is will we get it!!
This Movie Needs 100g + Dolby Vision, Hoping some day an Independent gets hold of the rights.

Yep, otherwise, there is no point in buying this. I'll be waiting for something else no way I'll get this. I have 2 of the Blu-Rays with what I presume will also have the same special features, same audio track, this release will still be soft and without DV it won't catch the eye. Just an opinion don't lose your crap guys.

DirecTV has been airing Kingdom of Heaven on their 4K channel this past month.

I say this with peace and love and no disrespect intended, but this statement is physical media collecting in a nutshell isn't it? "This is likely going to disappoint, but I'm buying it anyway."

And I'm sure it's an uprez of the 2K DI, like lots of 4K releases.

I have ascended to a higher plane and can now resist crappy discs usually, like Pirates of the Caribbean, but Heat is God and controls all.

I absolutely adore this movie but I'm waiting for reviews before I purchase. Will be definitely be holding onto my Warner BD just in case.

Michael Mann is very much the sort of person who could sway a studio like Disney to allow him to go back and produce a new master. Would also go
a long way in explaining why it has taken all of 63 years for the 4K release (other than to tie-in with Heat 2 novel, of course ). I guess we'll find out closer to release date whether it's an entirely new master or the same one from Fox BD with a HDR grade (which I wouldn't complain about as I quite liked that transfer)

I hate Steelbooks as a general rule so I hope for a standard UK edition in August.

Imagine a universe where Michael Mann stopped being a knob and permitted a Blu-ray release of The Keep.

The press release copied on this site lists it as "Previously Remastered in 4k" as opposed to newly remastered.

It's simply the first time the 2017 version will be screened in public in 4k.
